Abstract

A method is described that involves establishing a connection over a shared memory between a connection manager and a worker node. The shared memory is accessible to multiple worker nodes. Then sending, from the connection manager to the worker node over the connection, a first request containing a method call to a remote object on the worker node. Also sending, from the connection manager to the worker node over the connection, a second request containing a second method call to a second remote object on the worker node.

Claims

1. A method, comprising

establishing a connection over a shared memory between a connection manager and a worker node, said shared memory accessible to multiple worker nodes;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a first request containing a method call to a remote object on said worker node; and

,

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a second request containing a second method call to a second remote object on said worker node.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said worker node comprises a virtual machine.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein said first request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group consisting of:

an IIOP request;

an RMI request;

a CORBA request; and

,

an RMI/IIOP request.

4. The method of claim 1, comprising:

establishing a second connection over said shared memory from said connection manager to said worker node;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said second connection, a third request containing a command for an application running on said worker node; and

,

tearing down said second connection in response to said worker node having responded to said third request.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said third request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group, consisting of:

an HTTP request; and

,

an HTTPS request.

6. The method of claim 5 comprising:

said connection manager executing a session request/response communication protocol for said first request; and

,

invoking said remote object'"'"'s skeleton on said worker node.

7. An article of manufacture including program code which, when executed by a machine, causes the machine to perform a method, the method comprising:

establishing a connection over a shared memory between a connection manager and a worker node, said shared memory accessible to multiple worker nodes;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a first request containing a method call to a remote object on said worker node; and

,

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a second request containing a second method call to a second remote object on said worker node.

8. The article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said worker node comprises a virtual machine.

9. The article of manufacture of claim 7 wherein said first request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group consisting of:

an IIOP request;

an RMI request;

a CORBA request; and

,

an RMI/IIOP request.

10. The article of manufacture of claim 7, comprising:

establishing a second connection over said shared memory from said connection manager to said worker node;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said second connection, a third request containing a command for an application running on said worker node; and

,

tearing down said second connection in response to said worker node having responded to said third request.

11. The article of manufacture of claim 10 wherein said third request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group, consisting of:

an HTTP request; and

,

an HTTPS request.

12. The article of manufacture of claim 11 comprising:

said connection manager executing a session request/response communication protocol for said first request; and

,

invoking said remote object'"'"'s skeleton on said worker node.

13. The article of manufacture of claim 12 wherein said first request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group consisting of:

an IIOP request;

an RMI request;

a CORBA request; and

,

an RMI/IIOP request.

14. The article of manufacture of claim 13 wherein said worker node comprises a virtual machine.

15. A computing system comprising a machine, said computing system also comprising instructions disposed on a computer readable medium, said instructions capable of being executed by said machine to perform a method, said method comprising:

establishing a connection over a shared memory between a connection manager and a worker node, said shared memory accessible to multiple worker nodes;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a first request containing a method call to a remote object on said worker node; and

,

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said connection, a second request containing a second method call to a second remote object on said worker node.

16. The computing system of claim 15 wherein said worker node comprises a virtual machine.

17. The computing system of claim 15 wherein said first request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group consisting of:

an IIOP request;

an RMI request;

a CORBA request; and

,

an RMI/IIOP request.

18. The computing system of claim 15, comprising:

establishing a second connection over said shared memory from said connection manager to said worker node;

sending, from said connection manager to said worker node over said second connection, a third request containing a command for an application running on said worker node; and

,

tearing down said second connection in response to said worker node having responded to said third request.

19. The computing system of claim 18 wherein said third request is formatted according to a protocol selected from the group, consisting of:

an HTTP request; and

,

an HTTPS request.

20. The computing system of claim 19 comprising:

said connection manager executing a session request/response communication protocol for said first request; and

,

invoking said remote object'"'"'s skeleton on said worker node.
