Abstract

Provided are apparatuses and methods for providing a program or service transmission with associated ESG fragment(s) to a receiver within a designated location. Parameter, elements or sub-elements may be included in a service guide or other data fragment indicating the location within which the program, service and corresponding ESG fragment(s) may be broadcast. For example, a Cell ID may be indicated as an element or sub-element in an ESG fragment to indicate the location in which a program or service may be broadcast. Also, Cell IDs may be grouped to indicate a larger region in which to broadcast a program or service and corresponding ESG fragment(s) in a service guide.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

an input configured to receive data to be transmitted to a designated location;

an ID input configured to receive a parameter corresponding to the designated location, the parameter comprising a designation of one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs;

a processor configured to allocate the data to be transmitted to the designated location based on the parameter; and

an output configured to transmit the data to the designated location.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the ID input is configured to receive the parameter in an ESG fragment.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the ID input is configured to receive the parameter in a content fragment.

4. An apparatus comprising:

an input configured to receive transmission data;

a location information input configured to receive location information corresponding to a location in which the receiver is located and including one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs; and

a processor configured to determine destination information corresponding to the transmission data received at the input and to process the transmission data received at the input when the destination information matches the location information.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising an output configured to display the transmission data received at the input if the destination information matches the location information.

6. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising a memory storage configured to store the transmission data if the destination information matches the location information.

7. A method comprising:

receiving location information corresponding to a location in which broadcast data is to be transmitted;

determining a first Cell ID corresponding to the location information;

allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a location based on the first Cell ID; and

transmitting the broadcast data to the location.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the location information comprises a zip code.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the allocating step comprises:

determining a second Cell ID; and

allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a first location corresponding to the first Cell ID and a second location corresponding to the second Cell ID.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the transmitting step comprises transmitting the broadcast data to a location corresponding to both the first Cell ID and the second Cell ID.

11. A method comprising:

receiving transmission data;

receiving location information corresponding to a location in which the receiver is located and including one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs; and

determining destination information corresponding to the received transmission data; and

processing the received transmission data when the destination information matches the location information.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

displaying the received transmission data if the destination information matches the location information.

13. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

storing the transmission data if the destination information matches the location information.

14. A system comprising:

a transmitter including;

a transmitter input configured to receive data to be transmitted to a designated location,

an ID input configured to receive a parameter corresponding to the designated location, the parameter comprising a designation of one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs,

a processor configured to allocate the data to be transmitted to the designated location based on the parameter, and

an output configured to transmit the data to the designated location; and

a receiver including;

a receiver input configured to receive transmission data,

a location information input configured to receive location information corresponding to a location in which the receiver is located and including one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs, and

a processor configured to determine destination information corresponding to the transmission data received at the receiver input and to process the transmission data received at the receiver input when the destination information matches the location information.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the ID input is configured to receive the parameter in an ESG fragment.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the ID input is configured to receive the parameter in a content fragment.

17. The system of claim 14, further comprising a receiver output for displaying the transmission data received at the receiver input if the destination information matches the location information.

18. The system of claim 14, further comprising a receiver memory storage for storing the transmission data received at the receiver if the destination information matches the location information.

19. A computer readable medium containing computer executable instructions for causing an apparatus to perform the steps comprising:

receiving location information corresponding to a location in which broadcast data is to be transmitted;

determining a first Cell ID corresponding to the location information;

allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a location based on the first Cell ID; and

transmitting the broadcast data to the location.

20. The computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the location information comprises a zip code.

21. The computer-readable medium of claim 19, wherein the allocating step comprises:

determining a second Cell ID; and

allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a first location corresponding to the first Cell ID and a second location corresponding to the second Cell ID.

22. The computer-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the transmitting step comprises transmitting the broadcast data to a location corresponding to both the first Cell ID and the second Cell ID.

23. An apparatus comprising:

means for receiving location information corresponding to a location in which broadcast data is to be transmitted;

means for determining a first Cell ID corresponding to the location information;

means for allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a location based on the first Cell ID; and

means for transmitting the broadcast data to the location.

24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the location information comprises a zip code.

25. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the means for allocating comprises:

means for determining a second Cell ID; and

means for allocating the transmission of the broadcast data to a first location corresponding to the first Cell ID and a second location corresponding to the second Cell ID.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the means for transmitting comprises:

means for transmitting the broadcast data to a location corresponding to both the first Cell ID and the second Cell ID.

27. An apparatus comprising:

means for receiving transmission data;

means for receiving location information corresponding to a location in which the receiver is located and including one of a Cell ID and a group of Cell IDs; and

means for determining destination information corresponding to the received transmission data; and

means for processing the received transmission data when the destination information matches the location information.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising:

means for displaying the received transmission data if the destination information matches the location information.

29. The apparatus of claim 27, further comprising:

means for storing the transmission data if the destination information matches the location information.
