Abstract

A liquid crystal display device employing the color sequential display method includes multiple, different color light sources. An image data arranging circuit sorts image data input from an external source for each frame according to color and arranges the sorted image data into a plurality of sub-frames. A data driver applies the arranged image data for each color to the liquid crystal panel sequentially according to the sub-frames.

Claims

1. A display device comprising:

a liquid crystal panel;

an image data arranging circuit which sorts image data being input from an external source and corresponding to one frame according to color and arranges the sorted image data sequentially according to the color to form a plurality of sub-frames;

a data driver which applies the arranged image data for the each color to the liquid crystal panel sequentially according to the sub-frames; and

a light source which supplies lights of at least two colors different from each other to the liquid crystal panel sequentially with a period of the one frame.

2. The display device according to claim 1, further comprising a memory which stores sequentially the sub-frames constituting the one frame.

3. The display device according to claim 2, wherein the memory is provided with a pair, and the image data corresponding to the one frame are stored alternatingly in the pair of memories.

4. The display device of claim 1, wherein the number of the sub-frames is identical to the number of colors of the light supplied by the light source.

5. The display device of claim 1, wherein the number of the sub-frames is three.

6. The display device of claim 1, wherein the light source supplies a red light, a green light and a blue light.

7. The display device of claim 1, wherein the liquid crystal panel includes:

a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix array;

a plurality of gate lines which applies a same gate signal to the pixels disposed in at least two rows;

a plurality or data lines formed to intersect with the gate lines;

thin film transistors formed at intersection points of the gate lines and the data line.

8. The display device of claim 7, wherein the gate lines which supply the same gate signal to the pixels are connected to each other.

9. The display device of claim 7, wherein the number of the rows of the pixels to which the same gate signal is applied is three.

10. The display device of claim 7, wherein the data lines are provided in plural at the one pixel.

11. The display device of claim 10, wherein the number of the data lines is identical to the number of the pixels to which the same gate signal is applied.

12. The display device of claim 10, wherein the pixels neighboring each other in an extension direction of the data lines, to which the same gate signal is applied, are connected to the data lines different from each other.

13. A display device comprising:

a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix array;

a plurality of gate lines which apply a same gate signal to the pixels disposed in at least two rows;

a plurality of data lines formed to intersect with the gate lines;

an image data arranging circuit which sorts image data being input from an external source and corresponding to one frame according to color and arranges the sorted image data sequentially according to the color to form a plurality of sub-frames; and

a data driver which applies the arranged image data for the each color to the pixels sequentially according to the sub-frames;

a light source which supplies lights of at least two colors different from each other to the liquid crystal display sequentially with a period of the one frame.

14. The display device of claim 13, wherein the gate lines which apply the same gate signal to the pixels are connected to each other.

15. A control method of a display device comprising:

sorting image data according to color, the image data being input from an external source and corresponding to one frame;

arranging and storing the sorted image data sequentially according to the color; and

supplying lights of colors different from each other sequentially with a period of the one frame while applying the stored image data to a liquid crystal panel sequentially according to the color.
