A method for reducing scar formation at a wound site comprising administering to the wound site an effective amount of an composition comprising an alkalinizing agent together or in alternation with hyaluronic acid, to raise the pH at the wound site, to allow the wound site to heal and thereby reduce scar formation at the site.

Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and compositions for inhibiting scar formation on wound region. In certain embodiments, the methods include administering an alkalinization agent in combination with hyaluronic acid to a wound site to reduce the formation of scars at the wound site. Suitable alkalization agents include sodium bicarbonate, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide.

A method for reducing scar formation at a wound site comprising administering to the wound site an effective amount of an composition comprising an alkalinizing agent together or in alternation with hyaluronic acid, to raise the pH at the wound site, to allow the wound site to heal and thereby reduce scar formation at the site.
- 13. A pharmaceutical composition for inhibiting scar formation on wound region comprising an alkalinizing agent and hyaluronic acid, wherein said composition has an alkaline pH.

15. A kit for reducing scar formation at a wound site comprising:
- (i) at least one container containing an effective amount of an alkalinizing agent to raise pH at the wound site and inactivate TGF-β
at the wound site in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier wherein the raised pH at the wound site may be in the range of 8.5 to 10.0;
(ii) hyaluronic acid; and
(ii) written instructions on the use of the kit for reducing scar formation. - View Dependent Claims (16)
