Abstract

A method for delivering a stored message to a satellite radio receiver is disclosed. The method includes receiving a request to retrieve the message, receiving the message, encoding the message for satellite transmission, and transmitting the message for delivery to the satellite radio receiver.

21. A computer-readable medium containing computer-executable instructions for performing actions, comprising:

retrieving a message stored by a subscription service for a subscriber, wherein the subscription service comprises a digital data network that transfers data using Internet Protocol (IP);

encoding the message for satellite transmission; and

transmitting the message to a satellite for delivery to a satellite radio receiver in a specific destination location.

22. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein the satellite radio receiver is selected from the group of satellite radio receivers consisting of a subscription satellite music receiver and a subscription satellite television set top box.

23. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein the specific destination location of the satellite radio receiver is in an automobile.

24. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein retrieving the message stored by the subscription service includes retrieving a text message.

25. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 24, wherein the text message includes an electronic mail message.

26. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 24, wherein the text message includes an electronic fax message.

27. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein retrieving the message stored by the subscription service includes retrieving a voice message.

28. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein instructions for encoding the message for satellite transmission includes converting the message to a voice message.

29. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein instructions for encoding the message for satellite transmission includes digitizing the message.

30. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, wherein instructions for transmitting the message to the satellite for delivery to the satellite radio receiver includes uplinking the message to a satellite via an RF transmitter.

31. One or more computer-readable medium as recited in claim 21, further comprising:

receiving the message from the satellite at the satellite radio receiver;

decoding the message; and

presenting the message in audio form.

32. A system for delivering a stored message to a satellite radio receiver, the system comprising:

a service center for receiving a password protected request from a subscriber via a wireless communication device associated with a first subscription service to retrieve the subscriber'"'"'s personal message, wherein the first subscription service comprises a wireless telephone system and wherein the password protected request gains access to the wireless telephone system;

a server for retrieving the message from a second subscription service, wherein the second subscription service comprises a digital data network that transfers data using Internet Protocol (IP) and wherein the password protected request is converted to digital data and the password protected request gains access to the digital data network in addition to gaining access to the wireless telephone system;

a server for encoding the message for satellite transmission; and

an RF transmitter for transmitting the message to a satellite via the second subscription service for delivery to the satellite radio receiver, wherein the satellite radio receiver decodes the message, and wherein the satellite radio receiver is installed in an automobile.

33. The system of claim 32, wherein a delivery option on the wireless communication device enables the subscriber to select delivery of the message in a text format or in a voice format.

34. A method, comprising:

receiving, at a satellite radio receiver installed in an automobile, at least one message downlinked from at least one satellite;

decoding the message; and

presenting the message in audio form.

35. A method as recited in claim 34, further comprising receiving the message from a service center through the satellite.

36. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein receiving the message includes receiving a voice message.

37. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein receiving the message includes receiving a voice message converted from a text message.

38. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein receiving the message includes receiving a voice message converted from an electronic mail message.

39. A method as recited in claim 34, wherein decoding the message includes converting the message into audio form.

40. A method as recited in claim 34, further comprising enabling the satellite radio receiver to be tuned to a download frequency for receiving the message.
