Abstract

A lancing kit includes a lancing device and a lancing device cap. The cap for the lancing device includes a cap body and at least one sensor. In addition, the cap body includes a distal end with a target site contact surface, a proximal end for attachment to a lancing device and an opening through the cap body from the distal end to the proximal end. Furthermore, at least a portion of the target site contact surface is moveable between a first position and a second position upon application of a predetermined pressure to that portion of the distal end contact surface, and the sensor is configured to detect movement of the portion of the distal end contact surface into the second position and communicate such detection to the lancing device.

Claims

1. A lancing kit comprising:

a lancing device; and

a cap for the lancing device, the cap including;

a cap body with

a distal end with a target site contact surface;

a proximal end for attachment to a lancing device;

an opening through the cap body from the distal end to the proximal end of thereof; and

at least one sensor,

wherein, at least a portion of the target site contact surface is moveable between a first position and a second position upon application of a predetermined pressure to the portion of the distal end contact surface, and

wherein the sensor is configured to detect movement of the portion of the distal end contact surface into the second position and communicate such detection to the lancing device.

2. The lancing kit of claim 1, wherein the cap further includes a spring and the spring is configured to bias the portion of the target site contact surface that is moveable.

3. The lancing kit of claim 1, wherein the cap body includes a moveable cap body portion and the portion of the target site contact surface that is moveable is a surface of the moveable cap body portion.

4. The lancing kit of claim 3, wherein the moveable cap body portion is a nib disposed on the distal end of the cap body.

5. The lancing kit of claim 1, wherein the sensor includes at least two electrical contacts and an electrical signal wire.

6. The lancing kit of claim 1, wherein the cap includes a plurality of sensors uniformly distributed about the cap body.

7. The lancing kit of claim 1, wherein the lancing device includes a timer for initiating lancing and the sensor communicates such detection to the timer of the lancing device.

8. The lancing kit of claim 7, wherein the lancing device is configured to initiate lancing following a time interval in the range of 0.5 seconds to 5.0 seconds after the sensor communicates detection.

9. The lancing kit of claim 8, wherein the lancing device is configured to vary the time interval from use-to-use of the lancing kit.

10. The lancing kit of claim 7, wherein the lancing device is configured to initiate lancing following a time interval that has been optimized and wherein the lancing device includes a microprocessor that employs artificial learning to determine the optimized time interval.
