Abstract

In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for caching search related data on a mobile communication facility, coordinating the presentation of the cached information with network information to the mobile communication facility display to facilitate response to user queries with up to date information, and implicitly downloading updates to cached information while previously cached information is available to the user.

Claims

1. A method of increasing the interactivity of mobile search applications comprising:

caching data on a mobile communication facility wherein the data relates to a search;

presenting cached information to the mobile communication facility from the cache in response to a search related action;

retrieving updates to the cached information while the user interacts with the cached information; and

coordinating presentation of the cached information and updates to the cached information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached data is compressed on the server prior to transmission.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached data is decompressed after receipt on the mobile communication facility.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached data is a mobile content.

15. The method of claim 4, wherein the mobile content is the result of a search query.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the search query is initiated by a mobile communication facility.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the mobile communication facility is a phone.

21. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached data is data relating to suggestions.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the suggestions are downloaded in the background.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein the suggestions are updated in the background.

24. The method of claim 1, wherein the search is an explicit search.

25. The method of claim 1, wherein the search is an implicit search.

26. The method of claim 1, wherein the presentation of the cached information is grouped by category.

27. The method of claim 1, wherein the presentation of the cached information is in a thumbnail format.

28. The method of claim 1, wherein the presentation of the cached information is in a preview format.

33. The method of claim 1, wherein the coordination involves presenting the cached information is prior to the network information.

34. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached information is usable within a mobile communication facility user interface while the network information is downloading.

35. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached information relates to a prior search and the network information relates to a present search.

36. The method of claim 1, wherein the coordination involves presenting the cached information is prior to the network information.

37. The method of claim 1, wherein the cached information relates to an implicit search and the network information relates to an explicit search.

38. The method of claim 1, wherein the coordination involves presenting the cached information is prior to the network information.

39. A system of increasing the interactivity of mobile search applications comprising:

a caching facility adapted to cache data on a mobile communication facility wherein the data relates to a search;

a presenting facility adapted to present cached information to the mobile communication facility from the cache in response to a search related action;

a retrieving facility adapted to retrieve updates to the cached information while the user interacts with the cached information; and

a coordinating facility adapted to coordinate presentation of the cached information and updates to the cached information.
