Abstract

Shaft-coupling assemblies using the same shaft but different removable coupling devices (pulleys or gears, etc). The coupling devices are located at any location on the shaft and can be the same or different sizes.

Claims

1. An assembly comprising a universal motor shaft with at least one coupling unit operatively connected thereto, said coupling unit having means to be removably secured to said shaft and adapted to be removed and replaced with a second coupling unit, said shaft adapted to receive different sizes of coupling units at the same or at different axial locations on a longitudinal portion of said shaft.

2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said coupling unit is selected from the group consisting of pulleys, gears, cams, actuators and mixtures thereof.

3. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said coupling means is an integral portion of a hub-coupling single unitary part.

4. The assembly of claim 1 wherein said universal motor shaft(s) has at least one terminal portion comprising a D-flat section.

5. An assembly comprising a universal motor shaft with at least one hub-coupling unit which comprises a hub and a coupling means operatively connected thereto, said hub-coupling unit having means to be removably secured to said shaft and adapted to be removed and replaced with at least a second hub-coupling unit, said shaft having means to receive different sizes of coupling units at the same or at different axial locations on a longitudinal portion of said shaft, and wherein said hub-coupling unit adapted to being securely fixed in place on said shaft.

6. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said hub-coupling unit comprises coupling means selected from the group consisting of pulleys, gears, cams, actuators and mixtures thereof.

7. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said coupling means is molded into a same unit as said hub to form said hub-coupling unit, and having means whereby they are installed and removed from said shaft as a single unit.

8. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said hub-coupling unit has on an outer section of said hub, apertures adapted to mate with pins provided in a mounting clamp to provide thereby locking means to prevent both hub-coupling rotation and axial movement.

9. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said coupling means is a pulley.

10. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said coupling means is a gear.

11. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said coupling means is a cam.

12. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said coupling means is an actuator.

13. The assembly of claim 5 wherein said shaft has on its outer terminal portion a D-flat onto which a locking means is adjustably positioned to thereby provide means for securing and for removing said hub-coupling unit.

A universal shaft and coupling assembly for operative connection to a motor which comprises an elongated shaft with a D-flat and having means to receive different size couplings at the same or different axial locations along longitudinal points of said shaft, said coupling comprising a unitary structure unit including a coupling device and a hub to form a hub-coupling unit, said hub-coupling unit being adapted to be installed or removed from operative contact with said shaft, said hub-coupling unit having locking tapered apertures which have means to be mated and lock with tapered pins in a universal mounting clamp, said mounting clamp in locking contact with said D-flat of said shaft and said hub-coupling unit, said shaft having a rounded configuration throughout its longitudinal portion except for said D-flat on its outer terminal section.

15. The assembly of claim 14 wherein said coupling means is a pulley.

16. The assembly of claim 14 wherein said coupling means is a gear.

17. The assembly of claim 14 wherein said coupling means is a cam.

18. The assembly of claim 14 wherein said coupling means is an actuator.

19. The assembly of claim 14 wherein more than one coupling device is used at different axial locations.

20. The assembly of claim 14 wherein more than one coupling device is used, each of said coupling device having a different radial distance.
