Abstract

A method, computer program product and computing device for generating a first user profile associated with a first user of a media distribution system. The first user profile being stored on a first personal media device associated with the first user. The first user profile including at least a user identifier for identifying the first user within the media distribution system. Communication is established with a second personal media device associated with a second user of the media distribution system. The first user profile is transmitted to the second personal media device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

generating a first user profile associated with a first user of a media distribution system, the first user profile being stored on a first personal media device associated with the first user, the first user profile including at least a user identifier for identifying the first user within the media distribution system;

establishing communication with a second personal media device associated with a second user of the media distribution system; and

transmitting the first user profile to the second personal media device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

comparing the first user profile to data, concerning the first user, included within a user profile database to determine if the user profile database needs to be updated.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

in response to the user profile database needing to be updated, uploading at least a portion of the first user profile to the user profile database.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a second user profile from the second personal media device and storing the second user profile on the first personal media device, the second user profile being associated with the second user.

5. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

downloading data from a user profile database concerning the second user profile.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

authorizing the transmission of the first user profile to the second personal media device.

7. A computer program product residing on a computer readable medium having a plurality of instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

generating a first user profile associated with a first user of a media distribution system, the first user profile being stored on a first personal media device associated with the first user, the first user profile including at least a user identifier for identifying the first user within the media distribution system;

establishing communication with a second personal media device associated with a second user of the media distribution system; and

transmitting the first user profile to the second personal media device.

8. The computer program product of claim 7 further comprising instructions for performing operations comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

comparing the first user profile to data, concerning the first user, included within a user profile database to determine if the user profile database needs to be updated.

9. The computer program product of claim 8 further comprising instructions for performing operations comprising:

in response to the user profile database needing to be updated, uploading at least a portion of the first user profile to the user profile database.

10. The computer program product of claim 7 further comprising instructions for performing operations comprising:

receiving a second user profile from the second personal media device and storing the second user profile on the first personal media device, the second user profile being associated with the second user.

11. The computer program product of claim 10 further comprising instructions for performing operations comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

downloading data from a user profile database concerning the second user profile.

12. The computer program product of claim 7 further comprising instructions for performing operations comprising:

authorizing the transmission of the first user profile to the second personal media device.

13. A computing device configured to perform operations comprising:

generating a first user profile associated with a first user of a media distribution system, the first user profile being stored on a first personal media device associated with the first user, the first user profile including at least a user identifier for identifying the first user within the media distribution system;

establishing communication with a second personal media device associated with a second user of the media distribution system; and

transmitting the first user profile to the second personal media device.

14. The computing device of claim 13, wherein the computing device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

comparing the first user profile to data, concerning the first user, included within a user profile database to determine if the user profile database needs to be updated.

15. The computing device of claim 14, wherein the computing device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

in response to the user profile database needing to be updated, uploading at least a portion of the first user profile to the user profile database.

16. The computing device of claim 13, wherein the computing device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

receiving a second user profile from the second personal media device and storing the second user profile on the first personal media device, the second user profile being associated with the second user.

17. The computing device of claim 16, wherein the computing device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

establishing communication between the first personal media device and the media distribution system; and

downloading data from a user profile database concerning the second user profile.

18. The computing device of claim 13, wherein the computing device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

authorizing the transmission of the first user profile to the second personal media device.
