Abstract

A remote controller for remotely controlling an image processing apparatus having a receiving unit, including: a sensing unit having a region for sensing a position value corresponding to user'"'"'s contact and movement; a data processing unit for detecting information on a user'"'"'s movement direction to convert it into a control signal capable of being outputted in accordance with the position value sensed; and a transmitting unit for transmitting the control signal to the image processing apparatus.

Claims

1. A remote controller for controlling a menu having a plurality of levels of selection list in an image processing apparatus comprising:

a sensing unit having a region for sensing positions in the region corresponding to user'"'"'s contact;

a data processing unit for receiving a value corresponding to the sensed positions and detecting a direction of the user'"'"'s movement in the region; and

a transmitting unit for transmitting the detected direction of the user'"'"'s movement to the image processing apparatus;

wherein the menu is controlled in a first manner in accordance with detection of the user'"'"'s movement in a first direction and is controlled in a second manner in accordance with detection of the user'"'"'s movement in a second direction.

2. The remote controller according to claim 1, wherein the control of the menu in the first manner comprises of moving between items within the same selection list.

3. The remote controller according to claim 1, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of moving between the selection lists in different levels.

4. The remote controller according to claim 3, wherein the first direction is in the vertical direction.

5. The remote controller according to claim 2, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of moving between selection lists in different levels.

6. The remote controller according to claim 5, wherein the second direction is in the horizontal direction.

7. The remote controller according to claim 6, wherein the first direction is in the vertical direction.

8. The remote controller according to claim 1, wherein the data processing unit further detects click of the user.

9. The remote controller according to claim 2, wherein a lower level selection list is activated in accordance with the detection of a click.

10. The remote controller according to claim 7, wherein the data processing unit further detects click of the user.

11. The remote controller according to claim 10, wherein a lower level selection list is activated in accordance with click of the user.

12. The remote controller according to claim 1, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of adjusting the display parameter.

13. The remote controller according to claim 1, wherein the second direction is in the horizontal direction.

14. The remote controller according to claim 13, wherein the display parameter includes contrast or color value of a displayed image.

15. The remote controller according to claim 1, further comprising a display screen disposed in the remote controller.

16. The remote controller according to claim 15, further comprising a receiving unit for receiving menu information from the image processing apparatus.

17. The remote controller according to claim 16, wherein the menu is displayed on the display screen in accordance with the received menu information.

18. The remote controller according to claim 17, wherein the display screen is an LCD device.

37. The remote controller for controlling a menu according to claim 1, wherein the remote controller is a portable device.

40. The remote controller for controlling a menu according to claim 1, wherein the display processing apparatus is a television receiver.

19. A method of controlling a menu having a plurality of levels of selection lists in an image processing apparatus comprising:

providing a menu having a plurality of levels of selection lists;

receiving a direction of a user'"'"'s movement in a region corresponding to the user'"'"'s movement;

controlling the menu in a first manner in accordance with detection of the user'"'"'s movement in a first direction; and

controlling the menu in a second manner in accordance with detection of the user'"'"'s movement in a second direction.

20. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, further comprising:

sensing positions in a region corresponding to a user'"'"'s actuation of particular positions within the region;

detecting a direction of the user'"'"'s movement in the region in accordance with the sensed positions; and

a transmitting unit for transmitting the detected direction of the user'"'"'s movement to the image processing apparatus.

21. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, wherein the control of the menu in the first manner comprises of moving between the items within the same selection list.

22. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of moving between the selection lists in different levels.

23. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 22, wherein the first direction is in the vertical direction.

24. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 21, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of moving between the selection lists in different levels.

25. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 24, wherein the second direction is in the horizontal direction.

26. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 25, wherein the first direction is in the vertical direction.

27. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, further comprising detecting a click of the user.

28. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 21, wherein a lower level selection list is activated in accordance with the detection of a click.

29. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 26, further comprising the step of detecting a click of the user.

30. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 29, wherein a lower level selection list is activated in accordance with click of the user.

31. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, wherein the control of the menu in the second manner comprises of adjusting the display parameter.

32. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, wherein the second direction is in the horizontal direction.

33. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 32, wherein the display parameter includes contrast or color value of a displayed image.

34. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 33, further comprising the step of receiving a menu information from the image processing apparatus.

35. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 34, further comprising the step of displaying the menu in accordance with the received menu information.

36. The method of controlling a menu according to claim 19, further comprising the step of displaying the menu in a display screen of the image processing apparatus.

38. The method according to claim 19, wherein the step of receiving the direction user'"'"'s movement is through wireless receiver.

39. The method according to claim 20, wherein a finger of a user is used to input a position.

41. The method according to claim 39, wherein the input of a position comprises an actual contact between the finger and the region.
