Abstract

A method and apparatus for transmitting a packet data control channel in an OFDMA wireless communication system are provided. The method includes dividing control information for user data transmitted during a specific frame into a packet data control channel to be transmitted in a diversity mode and a packet data control channel to be transmitted in an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode; encoding and modulating the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode and the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode; and mapping the encoded and modulated packet data control channels to sub-carriers, before transmission.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, the method comprising:

dividing control information for user data transmitted during a frame into a packet data control channel to be transmitted in a diversity mode and a packet data control channel to be transmitted in an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode;

encoding and modulating the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode and the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode; and

mapping the encoded and modulated packet data control channels to sub-carriers, before transmission.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the mapping further comprises mapping the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the frame in a downlink MAP transmission interval.

The method of claim 1, wherein the mapping further comprises puncturing symbols from AMC sub-bands each comprising at least one sub-carrier in an AMC transmission interval, and mapping the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the specific frame.

4. An apparatus for transmitting a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a controller for dividing control information for user data transmitted during a frame into a packet data control channel to be transmitted in a diversity mode and a packet data control channel to be transmitted in an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode;

encoders for independently encoding the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode and the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode;

modulators for independently modulating the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode and the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode; and

a sub-carrier mapper for mapping the encoded and modulated packet data control channels to sub-carriers under the control of the controller.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the sub-carrier mapper maps the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the frame in a downlink MAP transmission interval.

The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the sub-carrier mapper punctures symbols from AMC sub-bands each comprising at least one sub-carrier in an AMC transmission interval, and maps the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the specific frame.

11. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the encoders comprise a first channel encoder and a second channel encoder.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein packet data control information is transmitted in the diversity mode and is input to the first channel encoder, and the packet data control information to be transmitted in the diversity mode undergoes a coding process in the first channel encoder.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein packet data control information is transmitted in the diversity mode and is input to the second channel encoder, and the packet data control information to be transmitted in the diversity mode undergoes a coding process in the second channel encoder.

14. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the modulators comprise a first modulator and a second modulator.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein packet data control information is transmitted in the diversity mode and is input to the first modulator, and the packet data control information to be transmitted in the diversity mode undergoes a modulation process in the first modulator.

16. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein packet data control information is transmitted in the diversity mode and is input to the second modulator, and the packet data control information to be transmitted in the diversity mode undergoes a modulation process in the second modulator.

7. A method for receiving a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving a signal transmitted from a transmitter, and removing a cyclic prefix (CP) from the received signal;

performing a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) process on the CP-removed signal;

selecting sub-carriers mapped to packet data control channels transmitted separately for a diversity mode and an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode for the FFT-processed signal;

demodulating the packet data control channels; and

decoding the demodulated packet data control channels, and outputting packet data control information.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the decoding of the demodulated packet data control channels and outputting packet data control information further comprises:

receiving the packet data control channels separately transmitted for the diversity mode and the AMC mode;

demodulating the packet data control channels;

determining whether there is a need for demodulation of a data channel; and

if there is a need for demodulation of the data channel, acquiring information necessary for the data channel from the packet data control channels, demodulating the data channel using the information, and outputting data.

9. An apparatus for receiving a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

a cyclic prefix (CP) remover for receiving a signal transmitted from a transmitter, and removing a CP from the received signal;

a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) unit for performing an FFT process on the CP-removed signal;

a sub-carrier selector for selecting sub-carriers mapped to packet data control channels transmitted separately for a diversity mode and an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode for the FFT-processed signal;

a demodulator for demodulating the packet data control channels; and

a decoder for decoding the demodulated packet data control channels, and outputting packet data control information.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the demodulator comprises:

a packet data control channel demodulator for receiving the packet data control channels separately transmitted for the diversity mode and the AMC mode, and for demodulating the packet data control channels; and

a packet data channel demodulator for acquiring information necessary for a data channel from the packet data control channels, for demodulating the data channel using the information, and for outputting data.

17. A computer readable medium having embodied thereon a computer program for executing a method for transmitting a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, the method comprising:

dividing control information for user data transmitted during a frame into a packet data control channel to be transmitted in a diversity mode and a packet data control channel to be transmitted in an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode;

encoding and modulating the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode and the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode; and

mapping the encoded and modulated packet data control channels to sub-carriers, before transmission.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the mapping further comprises mapping the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the diversity mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the frame in a downlink MAP transmission interval.

The computer readable medium of claim 17, wherein the mapping further comprises puncturing symbols from AMC sub-bands each comprising at least one sub-carrier in an AMC transmission interval, and mapping the packet data control channel to be transmitted in the AMC mode in the control information for the user data transmitted during the specific frame.

A computer readable medium having embodied thereon a computer program for executing a method of receiving a packet data control channel in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) wireless communication system, wherein a signal is transmitted from a transmitter and packet data control information is output, the method comprising:

removing a cyclic prefix (CP) from the received signal;

performing a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) process on the CP-removed signal;

selecting sub-carriers mapped to packet data control channels transmitted separately for a diversity mode and an Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) mode for the FFT-processed signal;

demodulating the packet data control channels; and

decoding the demodulated packet data control channels.
