Abstract
When a solution of an inorganic phosphoric acid, added to with calcium ions and magnesium ions, is incubated for a preset time duration, an apatite particle obtained is reduced in size, depending on the concentration of the magnesium ions. By employing an apatite particle, for which the concentration of the magnesium ions and the incubation time duration are controlled adequately, it is possible to improve the gene transfection efficiency into the cells and the gene expression efficiency in the cells.

5. An apatite particle represented by a molecular formula Ca10-xMgx(PO4)6(OH)2, where x=1, 2, . . . , 9, or a chemical formula Ca8-xMgxH2(PO4)6, where x=1, 2, . . . , 7, wherein the particle has a size of approximately 30 nm to 2500 nm.

A method of producing an apatite particle represented by a molecular formula Ca10-xMgx(PO4)6(OH)2, where x=1, 2, . . . , 9, or a chemical formula Ca8-xMgxH2(PO4)6, where x=1, 2, . . . , 7, wherein the particle has a size of approximately 30 nm to 2500 nm, the method comprising incubating a solution containing inorganic phosphoric acid, calcium ions and magnesium ions for a predetermined time.

An apatite particle- gene complex in which a specified gene is combined with an apatite particle, the particle being represented by a molecular formula Ca10-xMgx(PO4)6(OH)2, where x=1, 2, . . . 9, or a chemical formula Ca8-xMgxH2(PO4)6, where x=1, 2, . . . , 7, wherein the particle has a size of approximately 30 nm to 2500 nm.

A method of transfecting a preset gene into a specified cell by incubating, with said specified cell, an apatite particle- gene complex in which a preset gene is combined with an apatite particle represented by a molecular formula Ca10-xMgx(PO4)6(OH)2, where x=1, 2, . . . , 9, or by a chemical formula Ca8-xMgxH2(PO4)6, where x=1, 2, . . . , 7, wherein the particle has a size of approximately 30 nm to 2500 nm.
