Abstract

A method and system of selecting content from reviews for display are described. A review is identified and partitioned. A subset of the partitions is selected based on predefined criteria. A snippet is generated from the selected partitions. A response that includes the snippet is generated.

Claims

1. A method of processing reviews, comprising:

identifying a review;

partitioning the review into one or more partitions;

selecting a subset of the partitions based on predefined criteria;

generating a snippet including content from the selected subset; and

generating a response including the snippet.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein partitioning comprises partitioning the review into one or more sentences.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein selecting comprises:

determining a quality score for each of the partitions; and

selecting a subset of the partitions based on the quality scores.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein determining comprises determining a quality score for each of the partitions based on at least one of the group consisting of:

a length of the respective partition, values associated with one or more words in the respective partition, and a position of the respective partition within the review.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein selecting a subset of the partitions based on the quality scores comprises:

identifying one or more combinations of the partitions, each combination including a respective subset of the partitions that are consecutive within the review and satisfying predefined length criteria; and

selecting a respective combination having a highest respective combination score, the respective combination score based on respective quality scores of the partitions in the respective combination.

6. A system for processing reviews, comprising:

one or more modules including instructions;

to identify a review;

to partition the review into one or more partitions;

to select a subset of the partitions based on predefined criteria;

to generate a snippet including content from the selected subset; and

to generate a response including the snippet.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the one or more modules include instructions to partition the review into one or more sentences.

8. The system of claim 6, wherein the one more modules include instructions:

to determine a quality score for each of the partitions; and

to select a subset of the partitions based on the quality scores.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the one or more modules include instructions to determine a quality score for each of the partitions based on at least one of the group consisting of:

a length of the respective partition, values associated with one or more words in the respective partition, and a position of the respective partition within the review.

10. The system of claim 8, wherein the one or more modules include instructions:

to identify one or more combinations of the partitions, each combination including a respective subset of the partitions that are consecutive within the review and satisfying predefined length criteria; and

to select a respective combination having a highest respective combination score, the respective combination score based on respective quality scores of the partitions in the respective combination.

11. A computer program product for use in conjunction with a computer system, the computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium and a computer program mechanism embedded therein, the computer program mechanism comprising instructions for:

identifying a review;

partitioning the review into one or more partitions;

selecting a subset of the partitions based on predefined criteria;

generating a snippet including content from the selected subset; and

generating a response including the snippet.

12. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the instructions for partitioning comprise instructions for partitioning the review into one or more sentences.

13. The computer program product of claim 11, wherein the instructions for selecting comprise instructions for:

determining a quality score for each of the partitions; and

selecting a subset of the partitions based on the quality scores.

14. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the instructions for determining comprise instructions for determining a quality score for each of the partitions based on at least one of the group consisting of:

a length of the respective partition, values associated with one or more words in the respective partition, and a position of the respective partition within the review.

15. The computer program product of claim 13, wherein the instructions for selecting a subset of the partitions based on the quality scores comprise instructions for:

identifying one or more combinations of the partitions, each combination including a respective subset of the partitions that are consecutive within the review and satisfying predefined length criteria; and

selecting a respective combination having a highest respective combination score, the respective combination score based on respective quality scores of the partitions in the respective combination.

16. A system of generating snippets of reviews, comprising:

means for identifying a review;

means for partitioning the review into one or more partitions;

means for selecting a subset of the partitions based on predefined criteria;

means for generating a snippet including content from the selected subset; and

means for generating a response including the snippet.
