Abstract

An implant guidance and positioning device is provided for dynamic and rigid fixation of tissue or an implant. The device includes a handle and an elongated hook connected with the handle, which may have a lumen extending therethrough or may have a socket that can receive fasteners. The device also includes a guide channel or slot disposed in the handle. The longitudinal axis of the guide channel or slot may be generally aligned with or slightly offset from a distal end of the elongated hook or socket.

Claims

1. An implant positioning device comprising:

a handle;

a first hook connected with the handle, the first hook having a lumen extending therethrough; and

a guide channel connected with the handle, the guide channel having a longitudinal axis generally aligned with a distal end of the first hook.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein a proximal portion of the first hook is connected with the handle, the proximal portion being substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the handle.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the distal end of the first hook is offset from the longitudinal axis of the guide channel by about 1 cm or less.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the first hook is removably connected with the handle.

5. The device of claim 1, further including a drill system having a drill bit dimensioned for insertion through the guide channel.

6. The device of claim 1, further including a pushrod for positioning a fastener in the lumen of the first hook.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein the fastener includes a suture attached thereto.

8. The device of claim 7, further including an elongated claw dimensioned for insertion through the guide channel, the elongated claw including means for grabbing the suture.

9. The device of claim 1, further including means for clamping the device to tissue, the means including a threaded tube adjustably attached to the handle.

10. The device of claim 4, further comprising a second hook removably connected with the handle, the second hook interchangeable with the first hook.

11. An implant positioning device comprising:

a handle;

a first hook connected with the handle, a distal end of the first hook having a socket member connected thereto; and

a guide slot disposed in the handle, the guide slot having a longitudinal axis generally aligned with the socket member.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the first hook is removably connected with the handle.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein the socket is offset from the longitudinal axis of the guide channel by about 1 cm or less.

14. The device of claim 11, further including a drill system having a drill bit dimensioned for insertion through the guide slot.

15. The device of claim 11, wherein the socket member is dimensioned and configured for holding a fastener.

16. The device of claim 15, further including fastening member dimensioned for insertion in the guide slot.

17. The device of claim 16, wherein the fastening member includes means for attaching the fastening member to the fastener.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the attaching means includes threads.

19. The device of claim 11, further including means for clamping the device to tissue.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein the clamping means includes a tube and a finger grip attached to the handle.

21. An implant positioning device comprising a first hook and a guide channel positioned relative to the first hook such that a longitudinal axis of the guide channel is generally aligned with a distal end of the first hook.

22. The device of claim 21, wherein the first hook includes a lumen extending therethrough.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein a portion of the first hook and a portion of the guide channel are generally parallel.

24. The device of claim 23, wherein the distal end of the first hook and the longitudinal axis of the guide channel are offset.

25. The device of claim 21, further including a socket disposed on the distal end of the first hook, the longitudinal axis of the guide channel generally aligned with the socket.

26. The device of claim 25, wherein the socket is dimensioned and configured for holding a fastener.

27. The device of claim 26, wherein the guide channel is dimensioned and configured for guiding an elongated fastening member.

28. The device of claim 27, wherein the elongated fastening member includes means for attachment to the fastener.

29. The device of claim 21, further including means for clamping the device to tissue.
