Abstract

A performance management system renders performance management data and computed and aggregated metrics in a portfolio view. The performance management data flexibly calculates metrics from elemental data, aggregates the data within and across hierarchies, and establishes cross hierarchy performance management targets. Cross hierarchy performance management targets provide deeper insight into business performance through which the performance management system meets the performance management reporting challenges of modern, complex, global businesses.

Claims

1. A cross hierarchy performance management system comprising:

a database comprising;

performance management data aggregated and organized into a first hierarchy, a second hierarchy, and a cross hierarchy between the first hierarchy and the second hierarchy;

a performance management target set by the performance management data in the cross hierarchy;

an aggregated metric associated with the cross hierarchy;

a memory comprising a performance management reporting program operable to;

obtain a portfolio view selection from an operator;

retrieve a portion of the performance management data including the performance management target based on the portfolio view selection;

render the portion of the performance management data and aggregated metrics as a portfolio view; and

;

a processor coupled to the database and the memory which executes the performance management reporting program.

2. The performance management system of claim 1, where the database organization is derived from an entity relationship diagram specifying the cross hierarchy.

3. The performance management system of claim 1, where the first hierarchy and the second hierarchy comprise any combination of a geographic hierarchy, an outsourcing group hierarchy, or an operating group hierarchy.

4. The performance management system of claim 1, where the cross hierarchy comprises a cross hierarchy fact table comprising a target value field.

5. The performance management system of claim 1, where the first hierarchy comprises an OEM offerings hierarchy.

6. The performance management system of claim 5, where the second hierarchy comprises an OEM operating units hierarchy.

7. The performance management system of claim 6, where the cross hierarchy comprises a products-customer cross hierarchy.

8. A cross hierarchy performance management system comprising:

a database comprising;

a geographic hierarchy;

an outsourcing group hierarchy;

an operating group hierarchy;

performance management data stored in the database and comprising a geographic-outsourcing group performance target and an operating group-outsourcing group performance target;

a first cross hierarchy between the geographic hierarchy and the outsourcing group hierarchy, the first cross hierarchy comprising;

a geographic-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table comprising;

the geographic-outsourcing group performance target; and

a geographic-outsourcing group aggregated metric;

a second cross hierarchy between the operating group hierarchy and the outsourcing group hierarchy, the second cross hierarchy comprising;

an operating group-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table comprising;

the operating group-outsourcing group performance target;

an operating group-outsourcing group aggregated metric;

a memory comprising a performance management reporting program operable to;

obtain a portfolio view selection from an operator;

retrieve a portion of the performance management data and the aggregated metrics based on the portfolio view selection, including at least one of the geographic-outsourcing group performance target and an operating group-outsourcing group performance target; and

render the portion of the performance management data as a portfolio view; and

a processor coupled to the database and the memory which executes the performance management program.

9. The performance management system of claim 8, where the geographic-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table comprises an area-capability offering cross hierarchy fact table.

10. The performance management system of claim 8, where the operating group-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table comprises a client-capability offering cross hierarchy fact table.

11. The performance management system of claim 8, where the operating group-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table comprises an operating group-capability offering cross hierarchy fact table.

12. The performance management system of claim 8, where the database further comprises:

a third cross hierarchy between the geographic hierarchy and the operating group hierarchy, the third cross hierarchy comprising;

a geographic-operating group cross hierarchy fact table including a geographic-operating group performance target.

13. The performance management system of claim 12, where the geographic-operating group cross hierarchy fact table comprises an engagement-location cross hierarchy fact table.

14. The performance management system of claim 8, where the portfolio view comprises an offering-by-area view.

15. The performance management system of claim 8, where the portfolio view comprises a client-by-offering view.

16. The performance management system of claim 8, where the portfolio view comprises an engagement-by-location view.

17. The performance management system of claim 8, where the outsourcing group hierarchy comprises an outsourcing group-capability offering hierarchy.

18. The performance management system of claim 8, where the operating group hierarchy comprises an operating group-client hierarchy.

19. A method of rendering a portfolio view, the method comprising:

establishing multiple dimension tables;

establishing multiple fact tables including a cross hierarchy fact table;

populating the cross hierarchy fact table with a performance target;

populating the cross hierarchy fact table with an aggregated metric;

determining a portfolio view selection;

retrieving a performance management data subset comprising the performance target and the aggregated metric corresponding to the determined portfolio view selection;

rendering the performance management data subset as a portfolio view.

20. The method of claim 19, where the cross hierarchy fact table comprises foreign keys from a first hierarchy and a second hierarchy.

21. The method of claim 19, where the performance management data subset comprises a computed metric based on the performance management target.

22. A product comprising:

a machine readable medium; and

instructions encoded on the machine readable medium, which cause a processor in a performance management system to perform a method comprising;

establishing multiple dimension tables;

establishing multiple fact tables including a cross hierarchy fact table;

populating the cross hierarchy fact table with a performance target;

populating the cross hierarchy fact table with an aggregated metric;

determining a portfolio view selection;

retrieving a performance management data subset comprising the performance management target and the aggregated metric responsive to the determined portfolio view selection;

rendering the performance management data subset as a portfolio view.

23. The product of claim 22, where the cross hierarchy fact table is derived from any combination of a geographic hierarchy dimension table, an outsourcing group dimension table, an operating group dimension table, or any combination thereof.

24. The product of claim 22, where the performance management data subset is a computed metric based on the performance target.

25. The product of claim 22, where the cross hierarchy fact table is a geographic-outsourcing group cross hierarchy fact table, and further comprising establishing a geographic-operating group cross hierarchy fact table.

26. A product comprising:

a machine readable medium; and

a data model encoded on the machine readable medium which is accessed by a processor to report performance management, the data model comprising;

a first hierarchy;

a second hierarchy;

a cross hierarchy between the first hierarchy and the second hierarchy;

performance management data fields defined in the first hierarchy, second hierarchy, and cross hierarchy, including a performance management target field in the cross hierarchy, and an aggregated metric data field defined in the cross hierarchy.

27. The product of claim 26, where the cross hierarchy fact table is derived from any combination of a geographic hierarchy, an outsourcing group hierarchy, an operating group hierarchy, or any combination thereof.

28. The product of claim 26, where the first hierarchy comprises a geographic hierarchy comprising:

an area dimension table;

a geographic units dimension table; and

a delivery locations dimension table;

and where the second hierarchy comprises an outsourcing group hierarchy comprising;

an outsourcing group dimension table;

a capability offerings dimension table.

29. The product of claim 28, where the cross hierarchy comprises a geographic-outsourcing group hierarchy and where the performance management target comprises a revenue target.

31. The performance management system of claim 26, where the first hierarchy comprises an OEM offerings hierarchy.

32. The performance management system of claim 31, where the second hierarchy comprises an OEM operating units hierarchy.

33. The performance management system of claim 32, where the cross hierarchy comprises a products-customer cross hierarchy.

34. The performance management system of claim 32, where the cross hierarchy comprises a dealer locations-customers cross hierarchy.
