Abstract

A lottery system is provided. Lottery tickets may be purchased using a communication device, such as a mobile device. Sales commissions, or other credit, for the purchased tickets may be determined for one or more retailers based at least partially on the location of the communication device, for example, when the purchase is made.

Claims

1. A contest system, comprising:

a contest platform operable to receive purchase information corresponding to a purchase of one or more contest entries, the purchase being made using an electronic communication device; and

a location determination module operable to determine a location of the electronic communication device,

the contest platform operable to determine one or more sales commissions associated with the purchase based at least partially on the location of the electronic communication device.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more contest entries comprises at least one lottery ticket.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising a sales commission determination module operable to determine the one or more sales commissions.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the location determination module and the sales commission determination module are integral with the contest platform.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein at least one of the location determination module and the sales commission determination module are separate from the contest platform.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the electronic communication device is a mobile wireless communication device.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the purchase information is received over a communication network that is at least partially a wireless communication network.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the contest platform is further operable to determine a distance between a location of at least one electronic communication device and at least one retailer.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the contest platform is operable to determine the sales commission based at least partially on the distance between the at least one electronic communication device and the at least one retailer.

10. The system of claim 1, further comprising at least one processor for executing at least one contest activity.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the at least one contest activity comprises determining the location of the at least one electronic communication device.

12. The system of claim 1, further comprising at least one memory maintaining at least one parameter associated with determining the sales commission.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one parameter comprises one or more percentage values.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the at least one parameter comprises the location of at least one retailer.

15. An electronic communication device, comprising:

a receiver;

a transmitter; and

a data input device, the data input device receiving input from a user, the input corresponding to the purchase of a contest entry,

the transmitter operable to transmit the input to a contest platform, and further operable to transmit a signal useable by the platform to determine the location of the electronic communication device and to determine a sales commission for the purchase based at least partially on the location.

16. A system, comprising:

a platform operable to receive purchase information corresponding to a transaction, the transaction being made using an electronic communication device;

a location determination module operable to determine a location of the electronic communication device,

the platform operable to determine one or more credits associated with the transaction based at least partially on the location of the electronic communication device.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the transaction comprises a purchase of a lottery ticket.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the credit is a sales commission corresponding to the transaction.

19. A method for determining credit for a sale made using an electronic communication device, the method comprising:

determining a location of the electronic communication device,

determining the credit based at least partially on the location.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the electronic communication device is a mobile wireless communication device.

21. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is a sale of at least one lottery ticket.

22. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is a sale of a security.

23. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is the sale of an investment instrument.

24. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is the sale of property.

25. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is the sale of goods.

26. The method of claim 19, wherein the sale is the sale of services.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the sale is the service is a travel related service.

28. The method of claim 19, wherein the credit is a sales commission.

29. The method of claim 19, wherein the step of determining the credit comprises determining a retailer that is closest to the location and providing the credit to the retailer.

30. The method of claim 19, wherein the step of determining the credit comprises determining one or more retailers that are within a predetermined range of the location and providing the credit to the one or more retailers.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the credit is divided equally among the one or more retailers.

32. The method of claim 30, wherein the credit is divided among the one or more retailers according to predetermined percentages.

33. The method of claim 30, wherein the credit is prorated among the one or more retailers.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein the prorating is based on the relative distance from each of the one or more retailers to the location.

35. The method of claim 19, wherein at least a portion of the credit is provided to a predetermined retailer regardless of a distance between the predetermined retailer and the location.

36. The method of claim 19, further comprising receiving purchase information from the electronic communication device.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the purchase information comprises a code.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the step of determining the credit is performed based at least partially on the code.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein the code is associated with an entity and at least a portion of the credit is provided to the entity.

40. The method of claim 39, wherein the entity is an advertiser.

41. The method of claim 39, wherein the entity is a media provider.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein the code is provided on media distributed by the media provider.

43. The method of claim 19, wherein the purchase is only allowed if the electronic communication device is within a predetermined zone.

44. The method of claim 19, wherein the purchase is only allowed if the location of the electronic communication device is within a certain predetermined distance from a predetermined second location.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein the predetermined second location corresponds to the location of an advertisement.

46. The method of claim 19, wherein the step of determining the credit comprises defining at least one zone and determining at least one retailer within the zone, and wherein the location is within the zone.

47. The method of claim 19, further comprising sending a message to the user of the electronic communication device.

48. The method of claim 47 wherein the message is a promotion.

49. The method of claim 47, wherein the message is a confirmation of the purchase.

50. A system, comprising:

a receiver operable to receive information corresponding to a transaction, the transaction being made using an electronic communication device; and

a credit determination module operable to determine credit associated with the transaction based at least partially on at least one parameter associated with the electronic communication device.

51. The system of claim 50, wherein the transaction comprises the purchase of a lottery ticket.

52. The system of claim 50, wherein the credit comprises a sales commission associated with the transaction.

53. The system of claim 50, wherein the electronic communication device is a mobile communication device.

54. The system of claim 50, wherein the at least one parameter is a user associated with the electronic communication device.

55. The system of claim 50, wherein the at least one parameter is an identity of the electronic communication device.

56. The system of claim 50, wherein the at least one parameter is a provider of the electronic communication device.

57. The system of claim 50, wherein the at least one parameter is a location of the electronic communication device.

58. The system of claim 50, wherein the at least one parameter is an entity associated with the electronic communication device, the entity receiving the credit.

59. The system of claim 50, wherein a receiver of the credit is predetermined.

60. The system of claim 50, wherein a receiver of the credit is based at least partially upon input by a user of the electronic communication device.

61. A method for determining a recipient of a credit associated with a transaction made using an electronic communication device, comprising:

determining a parameter associated with the electronic communication device; and

determining the recipient based on the parameter.
