First Claim
1. A method comprising:
- (a) receiving user account identifying information from a user through at least one input device of an automated banking machine including a cash dispenser and at least one of a check imaging device and a currency bill validating device;
(b) receiving through at least one input device of the automated banking machine, at least one input indicating that the user wishes to make a deposit into the automated banking machine, wherein the deposit includes at least one of a check and a currency bill;
(c) operating the automated banking machine to communicate with at least one remote computer to determine if a user account associated with the user account identifying information, can have a first deposit transaction conducted thereon responsive to at least one message from the automated banking machine;
(d) responsive to a positive determination in (c), operating the automated banking machine to communicate with the at least one remote computer to cancel the first deposit transaction;
(e) responsive to a positive determination in (c), accepting the deposit in the automated banking machine;
(f) evaluating the deposit through operation of the automated banking machine to determine a value associated therewith;
(g) subsequent to (f), operating the automated banking machine to communicate at least one message with at least one remote computer, to conduct a second deposit transaction on the account, wherein the second deposit transaction causes a deposit in the amount of the value to be indicated as having been made to the user account.

Abstract
An automated banking machine (10) includes a user interface (12) including an opening (20). Users of the machine deliver individual sheets and stacks of sheets to and from the machine through the opening. Stacks of sheets may include sheets such as notes, checks or other documents. Stacks input to the machine may include mixtures of various types of sheets. The machine operates to receive notes, process checks and perform other operations. Notes received in the machine may be recycled and dispensed to other users. Checks processed by the machine may be imaged by an imaging device, cancelled and stored in the machine or alternatively returned to a user.

(a) receiving user account identifying information from a user through at least one input device of an automated banking machine including a cash dispenser and at least one of a check imaging device and a currency bill validating device;
(b) receiving through at least one input device of the automated banking machine, at least one input indicating that the user wishes to make a deposit into the automated banking machine, wherein the deposit includes at least one of a check and a currency bill;
(c) operating the automated banking machine to communicate with at least one remote computer to determine if a user account associated with the user account identifying information, can have a first deposit transaction conducted thereon responsive to at least one message from the automated banking machine;

(f) evaluating the deposit through operation of the automated banking machine to determine a value associated therewith;

22. A method comprising:

(a) receiving user account identifying information from a user through at least one input device of an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine includes a cash dispenser, at least one of a check imaging device and a currency bill validating device;
(b) receiving through at least one input device of the automated banking machine, at least one input indicating that the user wishes to make a deposit into the automated banking machine, wherein the deposit includes at least one of a check and a currency bill;
(c) operating the automated banking machine to communicate with at least one remote computer to determine if a user account associated with the user account identifying information, can have a deposit transaction including deposit of items in an envelope conducted thereon responsive to at least one message from the automated banking machine;
(d) responsive to a positive determination in (c), accepting the deposit including the at least one of a check and a currency bill in the automated banking machine;
(e) evaluating the deposit accepted in (d) through operation of the automated banking machine to determine a value associated therewith;
(f) operating the automated banking machine to communicate at least one message with at least one remote computer, wherein the at least one message causes a deposit to the user account to be indicated in an amount corresponding to the total value in a manner as though the deposit had been in an envelope.

23. A method comprising:

(a) receiving user account identifying information from a user through at least one input device of an automated banking machine, wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one of a check imaging device and a currency bill validating device;
(b) receiving through at least one input device of the automated banking machine, at least one input indicating that the user wishes to make a deposit into the automated banking machine, wherein the deposit includes at least one of a check and a currency bill;
(c) operating the automated banking machine to communicate with at least one remote computer to cause a user account associated with the user account identifying information, to have a first deposit transaction conducted thereon responsive to at least one message from the automated banking machine;
(d) subsequent to (c), operating the automated banking machine to communicate with the at least one remote computer to cancel the effect of the first deposit transaction;
(e) subsequent to (d), operating the machine to accept the deposit including at least one of a check and currency bill in the automated banking machine;
(f) evaluating the deposit made in (e) through operation of the automated banking machine to determine a value associated therewith;
(g) operating the automated banking machine to communicate at least one message with at least one remote computer, wherein the at least one message causes the user account to have a second deposit in an amount corresponding to the value to be made thereto.
