Abstract

The present invention provides an RF transmission leakage mitigator for use with a full-duplex, wireless transceiver. In one embodiment, the RF transmission leakage mitigator includes an inversion generator configured to provide an RF transmission inversion signal of an interfering transceiver RF transmission to a receiving portion of the transceiver thereby creating a residual leakage signal. Additionally, the RF transmission leakage mitigator also includes a residual processor coupled to the inversion generator and configured to adjust the RF transmission inversion signal of the interfering transceiver RF transmission based on reducing the residual leakage signal to a specified level.

Claims

1. An RF transmission leakage mitigator for use with a full-duplex, wireless transceiver, comprising:

an inversion generator configured to provide an RF transmission inversion signal of an interfering transceiver RF transmission to a receiving portion of said transceiver thereby creating a residual leakage signal; and

a residual processor coupled to said inversion generator and configured to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal of said interfering transceiver RF transmission based on reducing said residual leakage signal to a specified level.

2. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal employs a phase difference of about 180 degrees with respect to said interfering transceiver RF transmission.

3. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing a bond wire or a coupling strip.

4. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing an electrical coupling or a magnetic coupling.

5. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein adjusting said RF transmission inversion signal employs at least one of a phase adjustment and an amplitude adjustment.

6. The mitigator as recited in claim 5 wherein said phase adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

7. The mitigator as recited in claim 5 wherein said amplitude adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

8. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein a down-converted representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

9. The mitigator as recited in claim 8 wherein said down-converted representation is provided by a path selected from the group consisting of:

a main receive path employing a receive local oscillator; and

an auxiliary receive path employing a transmit local oscillator.

10. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein a digital representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

11. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein at least one of a least mean square estimation and a CORDIC calculation is employed to reduce said residual leakage signal to said specified level.

12. The mitigator as recited in claim 1 wherein said specified level is a noise floor of said receiving portion.

13. A method of mitigating an RF transmission leakage for use with a full-duplex, wireless transceiver, comprising:

providing an RF transmission inversion signal of an interfering transceiver RF transmission to a receiving portion of said transceiver thereby creating a residual leakage signal; and

adjusting said RF transmission inversion signal of said interfering transceiver RF transmission based on reducing said residual leakage signal to a specified level.

14. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal employs a phase difference of about 180 degrees with respect to said interfering transceiver RF transmission.

15. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing a bond wire or a coupling strip.

16. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing an electrical coupling or a magnetic coupling.

17. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein adjusting said RF transmission inversion signal employs at least one of a phase adjustment and an amplitude adjustment.

18. The method as recited in claim 17 wherein said phase adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

19. The method as recited in claim 17 wherein said amplitude adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

20. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein a down-converted representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

21. The method as recited in claim 20 wherein said down-converted representation is provided by a path selected from the group consisting of:

a main receive path employing a receive local oscillator; and

an auxiliary receive path employing a transmit local oscillator.

22. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein a digital representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

23. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein at least one of a least mean square estimation and a CORDIC calculation is employed to reduce said residual leakage signal to said specified level.

24. The method as recited in claim 13 wherein said specified level is a noise floor of said receiving portion.

25. A full-duplex CDMA transceiver, comprising:

a transmitter providing a transmission;

a receiver coupled to said transmitter; and

an RF transmission leakage mitigator, coupled to said transmitter and said receiver, including;

an inversion generator that provides an RF transmission inversion signal of an interfering transceiver RF transmission to a receiving portion of said transceiver thereby creating a residual leakage signal, and

a residual processor, coupled to said inversion generator, that adjusts said RF transmission inversion signal of said interfering transceiver RF transmission based on reducing said residual leakage signal to a specified level.

26. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal employs a phase difference of about 180 degrees with respect to said interfering transceiver RF transmission.

27. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing a bond wire or a coupling strip.

28. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein said RF transmission inversion signal is provided to said receiving portion of said transceiver employing an electrical coupling or a magnetic coupling.

29. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein adjusting said RF transmission inversion signal employs at least one of a phase adjustment and an amplitude adjustment.

30. The transceiver as recited in claim 29 wherein said phase adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

31. The transceiver as recited in claim 29 wherein said amplitude adjustment is provided by a passive network or an active network.

32. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein a down-converted representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

33. The transceiver as recited in claim 32 wherein said down-converted representation is provided by a path selected from the group consisting of:

a main receive path employing a receive local oscillator; and

an auxiliary receive path employing a transmit local oscillator.

34. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein a digital representation of said residual leakage signal is employed to adjust said RF transmission inversion signal.

35. The transceiver as recited in claim 25 wherein at least one of a least mean square estimation and a CORDIC calculation is employed to reduce said residual leakage signal to said specified level.
