Abstract

A mobile station-based locator system is disclosed including a GPS-enabled mobile station in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network. The mobile station may include a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card configured to notify a subscriber when the mobile station is near a forbidden zone using a data channel of the wireless network and an additional communication method.

Claims

1. A mobile station-based locator system comprising:

a GPS-enabled remote mobile station in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network, the mobile station including a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card;

a subscriber in network communication with said wireless network; and

said SIM card being configured to notify said subscriber when the remote mobile station is near a forbidden zone using a data channel of said wireless network and at least one other communication method.

2. The locator system of claim 1, wherein said remote mobile station is configured to store said notification when wireless service is unavailable.

3. The locator system of claim 2, wherein said remote mobile station is configured to send said notification to said subscriber when wireless service is available.

4. The locator system of claim 1, further comprising a subscriber terminal for viewing the location of said mobile station over the Internet.

5. The locator system of claim 4, wherein said wireless network further comprises a switching system configured to store coordinates of said forbidden zone.

6. The locator system of claim 5, wherein said forbidden zone is pre-defined by the subscriber.

7. The locator system of claim 6, wherein said subscriber may define said forbidden zone using a web page provided by said wireless network.

8. The locator system of claim 7, wherein said subscriber may enter a forbidden zone as a physical address.

9. The locator system of claim 8, wherein the system is configured to convert said physical address into location coordinates.

10. A mobile station-based locator system comprising:

a GPS-enabled remote mobile station in communication with a E911-enabled wireless network, the mobile station including a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card;

a subscriber in network communication with said wireless network; and

said SIM card being configured to notify said subscriber when the remote mobile station is near a forbidden zone using a data channel of said wireless network and at least one other communication method.

11. The locator system of claim 10, wherein said remote mobile station is configured to store said notification when wireless service is unavailable.

12. The locator system of claim 11, wherein said remote mobile station is configured to send said notification to said subscriber when wireless service is available.

13. The locator system of claim 12, further comprising subscriber terminal means for viewing the location of said mobile station over the Internet.

14. The locator system of claim 13, wherein said wireless network further comprises means for storing coordinates of said forbidden zone.

15. The locator system of claim 14, further comprising means for pre-defining said forbidden zone by the subscriber.

16. The locator system of claim 15, wherein means for pre-defining said forbidden zone comprises a web page provided by said wireless network.

17. The locator system of claim 16, wherein said subscriber may enter a forbidden zone as a physical address.

18. The locator system of claim 17, further comprising means for converting said physical address into location coordinates.
