Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and system of saving contact information of local businesses into the contact list of a communication device. According to one aspect, means is provided for callers to download the contact information of local businesses from a ‘central contact information database’ saved on a remote server into the contact list of their communication device, without having the need to manually enter the said contact information. The ‘central contact information database’ contains contact information of local businesses in one or more geographic areas. According to another aspect, callers are provided means to utilize the auto dial feature of their communication device to automatically dial a selected phone number from their contact list. According to another aspect, callers are provided with means to automatically transfer contact information from the contact list of one communication device to the contact list of another communication device. The present invention will improve commerce between local residents and local businesses by making contact information, including phone numbers, of local businesses readily available to local consumers on their personal communication device; without ever requiring them to manually enter each of the said contact information individually into their personal communication device. It enables callers to automatically save contact information of a large number of local businesses in their personal communication device; without the need to manually enter each such contact information, which is cumbersome and often unfeasible; especially when the contact information data is large.

Claims

1. A method of saving contact information of one or more parties in a communication device;

wherein

     1) contact information of one or more parties is saved in a central contact information database on a remote device;

     2) means are provided for any willing caller to download and save contact information of one or more parties from the remote device into the said communication device.

2. The method of claim 1;

wherein contact information of large number of parties can be downloaded and saved from the remote device into a communication device without requiring a caller to enter the said contact information manually into the said communication device.

3. The method of claim 1;

wherein means are provided for one or more parties to enter their contact information into the central contact information database on the remote device.

4. The method of claim 1;

wherein the contact information database downloaded into a communication device is dependent on the location of the said communication device; and

wherein the location of the said communication device is entered into the system manually by a caller.

5. The method of claim 1;

wherein the contact information database downloaded into a communication device is dependent on the location of the said communication device; and

wherein the location of the said communication device is determined automatically by the system.

6. The method of claim 1;

wherein data contained in one data field in the central contact information database on the remote server is transferred to a selected corresponding data field in the contact list of one or more communication devices.

7. The method of claim 1;

wherein one or more contact information saved in the communication device can thereafter be retrieved directly from the said communication device, without a need to access an external source.

8. The method of claim 1;

wherein means are provided in the said communication device to process the contact information stored therein in such a way as to execute one or more meaningful applications.

9. The method of claim 8;

wherein the said application comprises of automatic dialing of one or more phone numbers saved in the communication device.

10. A method and system to transfer contact information saved in first communication device to a second communication device.

11. The method of claim 10;

wherein data contained in one data field in the contact list of first communication device is transferred to a selected corresponding data field in the contact list of the second communication device.

12. The method of claim 10;

wherein the first communication device is connected to the second communication device via a wired network.

13. The method of claim 10;

wherein the first communication device is connected to the second communication device via a wireless network.
