Abstract

A resource management method in a Cognitive Radio communication system where at least two Base Stations of heterogeneous networks provide a connection service to Mobile Stations within their service areas is provided. In the method, at least one BS having candidate resources broadcasts its candidate resource information on the downlink of a system information channel. At least one BS lacking in resources searches the downlinks of system information channels from neighbor heterogeneous networks, selects an offer BS among the BSs having candidate resources, and rents resources from the selected offer BS by negotiations.

Claims

1. A method of renting resources in a Cognitive Radio (CR) wireless communication system, comprising the steps of:

receiving, by a renter Base Station (BS), a resource advertisement message broadcast from at least one neighbor BS;

sending, by the renter BS, a resource renting request message to an offer BS being one of the at least one neighbor BS based on channel set information included in the resource advertisement message; and

receiving, by the renter BS, a response message for the resource renting request message from the offer BS.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the channel set information includes information about candidate resources of the at least one neighbor BS.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the resource renting request message includes information about resources to be rented, which resources are selected based on the candidate resource information and information about a resource rental period.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising returning the rented resources to the offer BS by the renter BS, when the resource rental period has elapsed.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising returning the rented resources to the offer BS by the renter BS, when the offer BS requests returning of the rented resources.

6. A method of renting resources in a Cognitive Radio (CR) wireless communication system, comprising the steps of:

broadcasting, by an offer Base Station (BS), a resource advertisement message including channel set information to at least one neighbor BS;

receiving, by the offer BS, a resource renting request message from a renter BS being one of the at least one neighbor BS; and

sending, by the offer BS, a response message for the resource renting request message to the renter BS.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the channel set information includes information about candidate resources of the offer BS.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the resource renting request message includes information about resources to be rented, which resources are selected based on the candidate resource information and information about a resource rental period.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising collecting the rented resources from the renter BS by the offer BS, when the resource rental period has elapsed.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising requesting, by the offer BS, a return of the rented resources to the renter BS, when the offer BS needs to collect the rented resources.

11. A method of renting resources in a Cognitive Radio (CR) wireless communication system, comprising the steps of:

broadcasting, by an offer Base Station (BS), a resource advertisement message including channel set information to at least one neighbor BS;

receiving, by a renter BS being one of the at least one neighbor BS, the resource advertisement message from the offer BS and sending, by the renter BS, a resource renting request message based on the channel set information to the offer BS;

receiving, by the offer BS, the resource renting request message from the renter BS and sending, by the offer BS, a response message for the resource renting request message to the renter BS; and

receiving the response message by the renter BS.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the channel set information includes information about candidate resources of the offer BS.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein the resource renting request message includes information about resources to be rented, which resources are selected based on the candidate resource information and information about a resource rental period.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising returning the rented resources to the offer BS by the renter BS, when the resource rental period has elapsed.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

requesting the return of the rented resources to the renter BS by the offer BS, when the offer BS needs to collect the rented resources; and

returning the rented resources in response to the request of the offer BS by the renter BS.

20. The system of claim 14, wherein the offer BS requests a return of the rented resources to the renter BS, when the offer BS needs to collect the rented resources.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the renter BS returns the rented resources in response to the request of the offer BS.

16. A Cognitive Radio (CR) wireless communication system, comprising:

an offer Base Station (BS) for broadcasting a resource advertisement message including channel set information to at least one neighbor BS, receiving a resource renting request message in response to the resource advertisement message, and sending a response message for the resource renting request message; and

a renter BS being one of the at least one neighbor BS, for receiving the resource advertisement message from the offer BS, sending the resource renting request message to an offer BS based on the channel set information, and receiving the response message for the resource renting request message from the offer BS.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the channel set information includes information about candidate resources of the offer BS.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the resource renting request message includes information about resources to be rented, which resources are selected based on the candidate resource information and information about a resource rental period.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the renter BS returns the rented resources to the offer BS, when the resource rental period has elapsed.
