1. An annuloplasty device, for supporting a heart valve, comprising:
- a body member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a length extending therebetween, the body member configured to be implanted within a patient'"'"'s heart at or near a base of a heart valve;
wherein the body member comprises;
a first portion, comprising a shape memory material and being transformable from a first configuration to a second configuration in response to an activation energy; and
a second portion coupled to the first portion, the second portion comprising a magnetic material that is responsive to a magnetic field; and
wherein, when in position at or near the base of the heart valve and when the body member transforms from the first configuration to the second configuration, the body member reshapes a tissue of the heart so as to exert a force on the heart valve base.

When in position at or near the base of the heart valve and when the body member transforms from the first configuration to the second configuration, the body member reshapes a tissue of the heart so as to exert a force on the heart valve base.

an elongate member having a proximal end and distal end, the distal end configured to be inserted percutaneously into a vein of a patient, further configured to be inserted across a fossa ovalis in an interatrial septum of a patient, and further configured to be inserted into the left atrium of the patient while the proximal end is located outside the patient'"'"'s body; and
a distal element at the distal end of the elongate member, the distal element configured to emanate a magnetic field within the left atrium;

23. A method for changing a dimension of a heart valve annulus, said method comprising:

providing an annuloplasty device comprising;

wherein the body member comprises;
a first portion, comprising a shape memory material and being transformable from a first configuration to a second configuration in response to an activation energy; and
a second portion coupled to the first portion, the second portion comprising a magnetic material that is responsive to a magnetic field; and
wherein, when in position at or near the base of the heart valve and when the body member transforms from the first configuration to the second configuration, the body member reshapes a tissue of the heart so as to exert a force on the heart valve base;
providing an annuloplasty activation system comprising;
an elongate member having a proximal end and distal end, the distal end configured to be inserted percutaneously into a vein of a patient, further configured to be inserted across a fossa ovalis in an interatrial septum of a patient, and further configured to be inserted into the left atrium of the patient while the proximal end is located outside the patient'"'"'s body; and
a distal element at the distal end of the elongate member, the distal element configured to emanate a magnetic field within the left atrium;
wherein the distal element comprises at least one of a permanent magnet and an electromagnet, the electromagnet being activatable from outside the patient'"'"'s body; and
inserting the elongate member into the left atrium of the patient;
magnetically engaging the annuloplasty activation system to the annuloplasty device; and

28. A system for reshaping or reforming a heart valve annulus, the system comprising:

means for magnetically engaging an elongate member to an annuloplasty device while inside a body, the annuloplasty device configured to be implanted at or near the heart valve annulus; and
means for changing at least one dimension of the heart valve annulus while transforming the annuloplasty device from a first configuration to a second configuration and while the elongate member is engaged to the annuloplasty device.

29. A system for reshaping or reforming a heart valve annulus, the system comprising:

a magnet located in or on an elongate member, the magnet configured to engage an annuloplasty device configured to be implanted at or near the heart valve annulus;
an energy transfer module configured to change at least one dimension of the heart valve annulus while transforming the annuloplasty device from a first to second configuration and while the elongate member is engaged to the annuloplasty device.
