1. A device for capturing embolic particles, comprising:
- a core wire;
a shaft disposed coaxially about a length of the core wire; and
a filter operable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, a proximal end of the filter coupled to the shaft and a distal end of the filter coupled to the core wire.

19. A filtration device, comprising:
-
a shaft disposed about a wire, a proximal end of the shaft and a proximal end of the wire coupled to an actuating mechanism, a distal end of the wire extending distal of a distal end of the shaft; and
a strainer, having a proximal end coupled to the distal end of the shaft and having a distal end coupled to the wire, relative displacement of the shaft with respect to the wire operating the strainer between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the strainer including a plurality of pores having a pore size in the range of approximately 50 microns to approximately 400 microns.

20. A filter system, comprising:
an elongated member having an outside diameter configured to permit passage of at least a distal end of the member through a lesion in a blood vessel, the elongated member including a generally tubular shaft disposed coaxially about a length of a core wire and a filter coupled at one end to the shaft and at another end to the core wire, the filter expandable from a collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration upon axial movement of the shaft relative to the core wire, the filter including a plurality of pores having a pore size in the range of approximately 50 microns to approximately 400 microns.
