Abstract

A computer-implemented, transaction-making, municipal bond trading system having a capability to conduct a private electronic auction of bid wanteds between a central brokers'"'"' broker and multiple prospective remote bidders and to maintain a reference database of accurate individual bond lot descriptions and identifications, including CUSIP (trademark) numbers.

Claims

1. A method for trading bonds electronically, the method comprising:

receiving a query from a selling user computer;

transmitting a list of bonds to the selling user computer in response to the query;

receiving from the selling user a selection of a bond from the list of bond to be included in a bid wanted;

receiving a bid wanted for at least one bond lot comprising the selected bond from the selling user computer; and

transmitting the bid wanted to a plurality of bidding users.

2. The method of claim 1, comprising receiving a plurality of bids responding to the bid wanted from the plurality of bidding users;

and transmitting to the selling user computer a list of the bids received from the plurality of bidding users.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the list of bonds comprises at least one trader'"'"'s position size for each of a plurality of the bonds.

4. The method of claim 1, comprising transmitting to the selling user at least one of a unique issue identifier, a description, a maturity date, a par value, a coupon value, a yield, and a settlement date for each of a plurality of the bonds.

5. The method of claim 4, comprising incorporating into the bid wanted at least one item of bond data based at least on another item of bond data provided by the selling user.

6. The method of claim 1, comprising receiving a bond lot description from the selling user and system incorporating a unique issue identifier into the bid wanted.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the bond lot description is received from the selling user with the selling user selecting a bond from the list of bonds.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein at least one of the bonds on the list represents a bond order that has not traded.

9. A method for trading bonds electronically, the method comprising:

receiving a query from a selling user computer;

causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer in response to the query;

receiving from the selling user a selection of a bond from the list of bond to be included in a bid wanted;

receiving a bid wanted for at least one bond lot comprising the selected bond from the selling user computer; and

transmitting the bid wanted to a plurality of bidding users.

10. The method of claim 9, comprising receiving a plurality of bids responding to the bid wanted from the plurality of bidding users;

and causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer a list of the bids received from the plurality of bidding users.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the list of bonds comprises at least one trader'"'"'s position size for each of a plurality of the bonds.

12. The method of claim 9, comprising causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer at least one of a unique issue identifier, a description, a maturity date, a par value, a coupon value, a yield, and a settlement date for each of a plurality of the bonds.

13. The method of claim 12, comprising incorporating into the bid wanted at least one item of bond data based at least on another item of bond data provided by the selling user.

14. The method of claim 9, comprising receiving a bond lot description from the selling user and system incorporating a unique issue identifier into the bid wanted.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the bond lot description is received from the selling user with the selling user selecting a bond from the list of bonds.

16. The method of claim 9, wherein at least one of the bonds on the list represents a bond order that has not traded.

22. The system of claim 9, the method comprising receiving a bond lot description from the selling user and system incorporating a unique issue identifier into the bid wanted.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the bond lot description is received from the selling user with the selling user selecting a bond from the list of bonds.

24. The system of claim 9, wherein at least one of the bonds on the list represents a bond order that has not traded.

17. A system comprising at least one computing device that comprises a processor and a memory having software associated therewith that when executed causes the processor to perform a method comprising:

receiving a query from a selling user computer;

causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer in response to the query;

receiving from the selling user a selection of a bond from the list of bond to be included in a bid wanted;

receiving a bid wanted for at least one bond lot comprising the selected bond from the selling user computer; and

transmitting the bid wanted to a plurality of bidding users.

18. The system of claim 17, the method comprising receiving a plurality of bids responding to the bid wanted from the plurality of bidding users;

and causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer a list of the bids received from the plurality of bidding users.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein the list of bonds comprises at least one trader'"'"'s position size for each of a plurality of the bonds.

20. The system of claim 17, the method comprising causing a list of bonds to be displayed at the selling user computer at least one of a unique issue identifier, a description, a maturity date, a par value, a coupon value, a yield, and a settlement date for each of a plurality of the bonds.

21. The system of claim 20, the method comprising incorporating into the bid wanted at least one item of bond data based at least on another item of bond data provided by the selling user.
