Abstract

Described herein is an image capturing device such as a mobile communication device and methods for capturing and transmitting digital rights data. The methods include capturing (502) an image to generate a data and/or an image file, capturing (504) a pointer to digital rights information data embedded in a signal of a digital tag substantially synchronously with capturing the image. Then processing (506) the pointer to digital rights information data of the digital tag to associate the pointer with the data file to generate a combined file. Receiving (508) rights associated with the digital tag and associating the rights with the captured image.

Claims

1. In a mobile communication device, a method for capturing and transmitting data, the method comprising:

capturing an image to generate a data file;

capturing a pointer to digital rights information data embedded in a signal of a digital tag substantially synchronously with capturing the image;

processing the pointer to digital rights information data of the digital tag to associate the pointer with the data file to generate a combined file;

receiving rights associated with the digital tag; and

associating the rights with the captured image.

2. The method of claim 1, accessing the captured image with the received rights.

3. The method of claim 1, directing an application of the device to a server with the pointer to digital rights information.

4. The method of claim 3, requesting rights associated with the digital tag.

5. The method of claim 1, receiving the rights over a radio frequency communication link.

6. The method of claim 1, transmitting the image and the pointer to digital rights information data to another device.
