Abstract
The present disclosure relates to surgical fastener applying apparatus for sequentially applying a plurality of surgical fasteners to body tissue. The surgical fastener applying apparatus includes a replaceable cartridge assembly receivable in a distal end portion of a cartridge receiving half-section, the cartridge assembly including a safety lockout pivotably disposed along the upper surface of the cartridge assembly and movable from an unlocked orientation permitting assembly of an anvil half-section to the cartridge receiving half-section, to a locked orientation preventing assembly of the anvil half-section to the cartridge receiving-half section.

170. A surgical fastener applying apparatus, comprising:
-
a cartridge half-section including a pair of upstanding juxtaposed plates extending from an upper surface thereof, wherein the pair of upstanding juxtaposed plates are located near a proximate end thereof, and wherein each plate defines a channel formed therein; and
an anvil half-section, wherein said cartridge and anvil half-sections are relatively movable from an unclamped position to a clamped position and matable with one another via a non-circular pin defining an angle at which the cartridge half-section and the anvil half-section are properly mateable with one another. - View Dependent Claims (171, 172, 173, 174, 176)

175. A surgical fastener applying apparatus, comprising:
-
a cartridge half-section defining a longitudinal axis; and
an anvil half-section defining a longitudinal axis, said cartridge and anvil half-sections being relatively movable from an unmated position to a mated position;
wherein the cartridge half-section and the anvil half-section can only be mated when the longitudinal axis of the cartridge half-section is angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the anvil half-section by a predetermined angle.
