Abstract

A system and method of controlling copying of documents. The method includes optically capturing a document. At least one object of the captured document is recognized. A content output is determined based on the recognized object and at least one output rule. The content output is provided based on the determination.

Claims

1. A method of capturing contents of a document, the method comprising:

optically capturing a document;

recognizing at least one object of the captured document;

determining a content output based on the recognized object and at least one output rule; and

providing the content output based on the determination.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one object is compared to a database of objects.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the recognition of the at least one object comprises optical object recognition.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one output rule is selected from a group consisting of an output limited rule, a notification rule, a copyright rule, an authorization rule, an archiving rule, a block rule, a copy number rule, a purchase order rule, a copy order rule, and a fair-use rule.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising modifying a portion of the document based on the determination.

6. The method of claim 1 further comprising adding visual information to the content output.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising providing at least one user prompt when at least one object is not recognized.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising sending an unauthorized copy alert.

9. A computer usable medium including a program for controlling copying of documents:

computer readable program code for optically capturing a document;

computer readable program code for recognizing at least one object of the captured document;

computer readable program code for determining a content output based on the recognized object and at least one output rule; and

computer readable program code for providing the content output based on the determination.

10. The computer usable medium of claim 9 wherein the at least one object is compared to a database of objects.

11. The computer usable medium of claim 9 wherein the recognition of the at least one object comprises optical object recognition.

12. The computer usable medium of claim 9 wherein the at least one output rule is selected from a group consisting of a output limited rule, a notification rule, a copyright rule, an authorization rule, an archiving rule, a block rule, a copy number rule, a purchase order rule, a copy order rule, and a fair-use rule.

13. The computer usable medium of claim 9 further comprising computer readable program code for modifying a portion of the document based on the determination.

14. The computer usable medium of claim 9 further comprising computer readable program code for adding visual information to the content output.

15. The computer usable medium of claim 9 further comprising computer readable program code for at least one user prompt when at least one object is not recognized.

16. The computer usable medium of claim 9 further comprising computer readable program code for sending an unauthorized copy alert.

17. A system for controlling copying of documents, the system comprising:

means for optically capturing a document;

means for recognizing at least one object of the captured document;

means for determining a content output based on the recognized object and at least one output rule; and

means for providing the content output based on the determination.
