Abstract

A method for data interchange includes summing up data associated with an electronic document to provide summed up data, representing the summed up data as one or more bar codes, and returning the one or more bar codes for display and data capture via a bar code scan from either a video display or a printed version of the one or more bar codes. The electronic document may be of any number of formats. The summing up may include taking data from multiple information fields to create the summed up data. The data may include data tags or a step of adding data tags to the data to assist in data interchange may be performed.

Claims

1. A method for data interchange, comprising:

summing up data associated with an electronic document to provide summed up data;

representing the summed up data as one or more bar codes;

returning the one or more bar codes for display and data capture via a bar code scan from either a video display or a printed version of the one or more bar codes.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein summing up includes taking data from multiple information fields to create the summed up data.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the data includes data tags.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising adding data tags to the data to assist in data interchange.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the data includes data tags.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the steps of summing up, representing, and returning are performed by a software application running on a first computer.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising sending the data associated with the electronic document to a remote computing device for performing the steps of summing up, representing, and returning.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the step of returning is returning an image.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the data associated with the electronic document includes data from a source associated with the electronic document.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the one or more bar codes are maintained by incorporating the one or more bar codes into the electronic document as one or more images.

11. The method of claim 1 further comprising representing the electronic document and the one or more bar codes on microfilm or microfiche for archival purposes.

12. A method of data interchange, comprising:

receiving a number from a user representing a location of a web resource;

accessing the web resource using the number;

receiving from the web resource a bar code summing up data associated with the web resource.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein the number is a phone number.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein the data includes data tags.
