Abstract

A position data exchange system comprises first and second mobile communication devices. The first communication device retrieves current coordinates of itself from a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver and transmits the coordinates through a wireless communication channel from which the second communication device receives the coordinates. The second communication device displays data concerning the current location of the first communication device according to the coordinates and further provides navigation.

Claims

1. A position data exchange system, comprising:

a first mobile communication device, comprising;

a global positioning system (GPS) receiver deriving coordinates of the first mobile communication device; and

a communication unit transmitting the coordinates; and

a second mobile communication device receiving the coordinates, and displaying corresponding information of the coordinates of the first mobile communication device.

2. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first and second mobile communication devices are cell phones.

3. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second mobile communication device comprises an electronic map and displays a symbol representing the first mobile communication device at a position on the electronic map corresponding to the coordinates.

4. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second mobile communication device transmits a request to the first mobile communication device which subsequently transmits the coordinates to respond the request.

5. The system as claimed in claim 4, wherein the second mobile communication device comprises a predetermined electronic schedule based on which request is transmitted.

6. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a predetermined electronic schedule based on which the coordinates are transmitted.

7. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a position-based condition, and transmits the coordinates when the current position thereof satisfies the position-based condition.

8. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a battery, and, when determining that the battery power is low, only receives position query requests and responds thereto by transmitting the coordinates.

9. The system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises an electronic map, extracts a map image corresponding to the coordinates from the electronic map, and transmits the map image to the second mobile communication device.

10. A mobile communication device, comprising:

a storage device storing an electronic map;

a communication unit initiating a wireless communication channel;

a processor coupled to the storage device, the communication unit, and a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, retrieving current coordinates of the mobile communication device from the GPS receiver, wherein the processor extracts map image data corresponding to the coordinates from the electronic map, and transmits the map image data through the wireless communication channel.

11. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein the map image data comprises map images of different scales.

12. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein the mobile communication device comprises a cell phone.

13. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein the processor further transmits text data corresponding to the coordinates through the wireless communication channel.

14. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein, when receiving a position query request through the communication unit, the processor automatically transmits the map image data in response.

15. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein the storage device comprises a predetermined electronic schedule based on which the coordinates are transmitted.

16. The device as claimed in claim 10, wherein the storage device comprises a position-based condition, and transmits the coordinates when the current position thereof satisfies the position-based condition.

17. The device as claimed in claim 10, further comprising a battery, and, when determining that the battery power is low, only receives position query requests and responds thereto by transmitting the coordinates.

18. A position data exchange method, implemented in a first mobile communication device, comprising:

retrieving coordinates of the first mobile communication device from a global positioning system (GPS) receiver; and

transmitting the coordinates to a second mobile communication device through a wireless communication channel.

19. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises an electronic map, and the method further comprises:

extracting map image data corresponding to the coordinates from the electronic map; and

transmitting the map image data to the second mobile communication device.

20. The method as claimed in claim 19, wherein the map image data comprises map images of different scales.

21. The method as claimed in claim 19, wherein the first mobile communication devices is a cell phone.

22. The method as claimed in claim 18, further comprising:

transmitting text data corresponding to the coordinates through the wireless communication channel.

23. The method as claimed in claim 18, further comprising:

when receiving a position query request from the wireless communication channel, automatically transmitting the coordinates in response.

24. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a predetermined electronic schedule, and the method further comprises:

transmitting the coordinates based on the predetermined electronic schedule.

25. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a position-based condition, and the method further comprises:

transmitting the coordinates when the coordinates of the first mobile communication device satisfy the position-based condition.

26. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the first mobile communication device comprises a battery and the method further comprises:

when determining that the battery power is low, only receives position query requests and responds thereto by transmitting the coordinates.
