Abstract

Provided is an image display apparatus whose display images can be viewed regardless of an orientation or an aspect ratio of a display image. When a user sets the orientation and the aspect ratio of a live view display, a background frame corresponding to the orientation and the aspect ratio set by the user is selected. Then, a spare region is determined, and icons are placed in the determined spare region. When the orientation or aspect ratio of the display image is changed, the position of the icons is also changed so that the appearance of the display images is not overlapped with icons or information.

Claims

1. An image display apparatus for a photographing apparatus, the image display apparatus comprising:

a display unit that displays an image;

a motion sensing unit that senses motion of a body of the photographing apparatus; and

an image display setting unit that sets a display format of the image according to a motion sensed by the motion sensing unit.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the image display setting unit is configured to change at least one of an orientation and an aspect ratio of the image.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the motion sensing unit is selected from the group consisting of accelerometers and gyroscopes.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the motion sensing unit includes at least one sensor configured to detect motion of the photographing apparatus along at least one axis.

5. A photographing apparatus comprising:

a photographing module that photographs an image of a subject;

a display unit that displays the image and OSD information relative to the image;

an image display setting unit that formats image data of the image for reproduction on a first portion of the display unit; and

an OSD information position determination unit that reproduces the OSD information on a second portion of the display unit relative to a format of the image data set by the image display setting unit.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein the image display setting unit is configured to change at least one of an orientation and an aspect ratio of the image.

7. The apparatus of claim 5 wherein at least one of the image display setting unit and the OSD information position determination unit further comprises a motion sensing module.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 wherein the motion sensing module includes at least one sensor selected from the group consisting of accelerometers and gyroscopes.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 wherein the at least one sensor is configured to detect motion of the photographing apparatus along at least one axis.

10. A digital camera comprising:

a photographing means for capturing an image of a subject;

a display means for reproducing the image and displaying a plurality of informational icons relative to the image;

an image formatting means for adjusting image data of the image for reproduction on a first portion of the display means; and

a means for reproducing the plurality of informational icons on a second portion of the display means according to a format of the image data set by the image formatting means.

11. The digital camera of claim 10 wherein the image formatting means is configured to change at least one of an orientation and an aspect ratio of the image.

12. The digital camera of claim 11 further comprises a sensing means for detecting at least one of an inclination, direction, speed, and acceleration of the camera.

13. The digital camera of claim 12 wherein the sensing means communicates with at least one of the image formatting means and the means for reproducing the plurality of informational icons.

14. The digital camera of claim 12 wherein the sensing means includes at least one sensor selected from the group consisting of accelerometers and gyroscopes.

15. The digital camera of claim 12 wherein the at least one sensor is configured to detect motion of the digital camera along at least one axis.

16. The digital camera of claim 15 wherein a first axis of the at least one axis is a horizontal axis and a second axis of the at least one axis is a vertical axis.

17. The digital camera of claim 11 wherein the aspect ration of the first portion of the display means is one of 4:

18. The digital camera of claim 17 wherein the second portion of the display comprises two non-adjacent, non-contiguous spare regions configured between the first portion and a perimeter of the display means.

19. The digital camera of claim 18 wherein the perimeter of the display means is generally square-shaped.

20. The digital camera of claim 19 wherein both of the two non-adjacent, non-contiguous spare regions are oriented substantially parallel and at least one of horizontally and vertically.
