Abstract

Systems and methods for recording viewing of an advertisement on a mobile computing device. In an example method the mobile computing device initiates presentation of a digital content file having one or more associated advertisements, transmits from the mobile computing device at least one of an identifier for the presented digital content file or an identifier of the associated advertisement over a wireless network to a server, and updates an advertisement impression count at the server based on the transmitted digital content file identifier or associated advertisement identifier. The digital content file and associated one or more advertisement may be received from another mobile computing device. The mobile computing devices include cellular phones.

Claims

1. A method for recording presentation of an advertisement performed on a mobile computing device, the method comprising:

initiating presentation on the mobile computing device a digital content file having one or more associated advertisements;

transmitting from the mobile computing device at least one of an identifier for the presented digital content file or an identifier of the associated one or more advertisements over a wireless network to a server; and

updating an advertisement impression count at the server based on the transmitted digital content file identifier or associated advertisement identifier.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising playing the digital content file based on the initiation of the presentation of the digital content file.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising recording the digital content file as previously played based on playing of the digital content file.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

determining if the digital content file is being played for a first time on the mobile computing device based on the recordation; and

if it is determined that the initiated digital content file is being played for the first time, performing transmission and updating.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving the digital content file and the associated one or more advertisements from another mobile computing device.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the mobile computing devices include a cellular phone.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the advertisement impression count includes information associated with the mobile computing device that performed the transmission.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the information includes at least one of location, type of device, or account information associated with the mobile computing device.

9. A system for recording presentation of an advertisement performed on a mobile computing device, the system comprising:

a means for initiating presentation on the mobile computing device of a digital content file having one or more associated advertisements;

a means for transmitting from the mobile computing device at least one of an identifier for the presented digital content file or an identifier of the associated one or more advertisements over a wireless network to a server; and

a means for updating an advertisement impression count at the server based on the transmitted digital content file identifier or associated advertisement identifier.

10. The system of claim 9, further comprising a means for playing the digital content file based on the initiation of the presentation of the digital content file.

11. The system of claim 10, further comprising a means for recording the digital content file as previously played based on the means for playing of the digital content file.

12. The system of claim 11, further comprising:

a means for determining if the digital content file is being played for a first time on the mobile computing device based on the recordation,

wherein the means for transmitting transmits, if it is determined that the initiated digital content file is being played for the first time.

13. The system of claim 9, further comprising a means for receiving the digital content file and the associated one or more advertisements from another mobile computing device.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the mobile computing devices include a cellular phone.

15. The system of claim 9, wherein the advertisement impression count includes information associated with the mobile computing device that performed the transmission.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the information includes at least one of location, type of device, or account information associated with the mobile computing device.
