Abstract

A computer-implemented method processes a simple object access protocol (SOAP) command. The method includes interpreting an XML script to perform a function contained in the XML script, the XML script containing the SOAP command, parsing the SOAP command from the XML script, and passing the SOAP command to a SOAP interpreter for execution.

13. A computer-implemented method for generating extensible make-up language (XML) script that contains a simple object access protocol (SOAP) command, comprising:

receiving code that defines a function and the SOAP command; and

translating the code to XML script that performs the function and controls the SOAP command.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising providing the XML script to a device.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the device comprises a controller that executes the XML script.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein the code contains plural SOAP commands and functions, and the XML script contains the plural SOAP commands and functions.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein;

the XML script declares a variable; and

a value of the variable value is passed as an argument to the SOAP command in the XML script.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the function comprises a conditional statement.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the conditional statement comprises an If-Then statement or an If-Then-Else statement.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein the function comprises a control statement that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the control statement comprises a loop.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein the function comprises an exception handler that that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command when an error condition exists.

23. The method of claim 13, wherein the function comprises a statement that controls a relative or absolute time to execute the SOAP command.

36. An article comprising a machine-readable medium that stores executable instructions to generate extensible markup language (XML) script that contains a simple object access protocol (SOAP) command, the instructions causing a machine to:

receive code that defines a function and the SOAP command; and

translate the code to XML script that performs the function and contains the SOAP command.

37. The article of claim 36, further comprising instructions that cause the machine to provide the XML script to a device.

38. The article of claim 37, wherein the device comprises a controller that executes the XML script.

39. The article of claim 36, wherein the code contains plural SOAP commands and functions, and the XML script contains the plural SOAP commands and functions.

40. The article of claim 36, wherein:

the XML script declares a variable; and

a value of the variable is passed as an argument to the SOAP command in the XML script.

41. The article of claim 36, wherein the function comprises a conditional statement.

42. The article of claim 41, wherein the conditional statement comprises an If-Then statement or an IF-Then-Else statement.

43. The article of claim 36, wherein the function comprises a control statement that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command.

44. The article of claim 43, wherein the control statement comprises a loop.

45. The article of claim 36, wherein the function comprises an exception handler that that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command when an error condition exists.

46. The article of claim 36, wherein the function comprises a statement that controls a relative or absolute time to execute the SOAP command.

60. An apparatus for generating extensible markup language (XML) script that contains a simple object access protocol (SOAP) command, the apparatus comprising circuitry to:

receive code that defines a function and the SOAP command; and

translate the code to XML script that performs the function and contains the SOAP command.

61. The apparatus of claim 60, further comprising circuitry to provide the XML script to a device.

62. The apparatus of claim 61, wherein the device comprises a controller that executes the XML script.

63. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the code contains plural SOAP commands and functions, and the XML script contains the plural SOAP commands and functions.

64. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein:

the XML script declares a variable; and

a value of the variable value is passed as an argument to the SOAP command in the XML script.

65. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the function comprises a conditional statement.

66. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the conditional statement comprises an If-Then statement or an If-Then-Else statement.

67. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the function comprises a control statement that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command.

68. The apparatus of claim 67, wherein the control statement comprises a loop.

69. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the function comprises an exception handler that that affects a sequence of execution of the XML script and/or the SOAP command when an error condition exists.

70. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the function comprises a statement that controls a relative or absolute time to execute the SOAP command.

71. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the circuitry comprises at least one of programmable logic, logic gates, a processor, and a memory.
