VIDEO SIGNAL RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS
First Claim
1. A video signal recording and reproducing apparatus, comprising:
- an input section operable to input a video signal;
a time-axis compression section operable to perform a time-axis compression operation on the video signal;
a writing section operable to write a time-axis compressed video signal on a hard disk via a magnetic head, the time-axis compressed video signal being obtained as an output of the time-axis compression means;
a reading section operable to read out the written time-axis compressed video signal from the hard disk via the magnetic head which is the same as said magnetic head;
a time-axis expansion section operable to decompress the read time-axis compressed video signal so as to obtain the original video signal; and
an output section operable to output the time-axis expanded video signal, wherein the input video signal is written on the hard disk and a previously recorded video signal is read out simultaneously, the video signal recording and reproducing apparatus further comprising;
a recording section operable to record information pertaining to a time at which a video signal was recorded; and
a control section operable to make the recorded time of a reproduced video signal catch up with a current time by a high-rate reproduction.

Abstract
The video signal recording and reproducing apparatus of the invention includes: a receiving section for receiving a television signal; an image compression section for compressing an amount of information per unit time of the received continuous video signal; a writing section for intermittently writing a compressed video signal, obtained as an output of the image compression section, onto a hard disk apparatus via a magnetic head; a reading section for intermittently reading out the written compressed video signal from the hard disk apparatus via the magnetic head; a decoding section for restoring the read compressed video signal into an original video signal; a display section for displaying the restored video signal; and a control section for controlling the writing section and the reading section such that writing the video signal onto the hard disk apparatus and reading an arbitrary video signal, which was previously written onto the hard disk apparatus, from the hard disk apparatus are performed apparently simultaneously and continuously.
