Tire Monitoring Techniques
First Claim
1. A method for obtaining information about a plurality of tires on a single vehicle, comprising:
- arranging a tire monitor on each of the plurality of tires to provide signals containing information about one or more properties of the tire on which the tire monitor is arranged;
arranging an interrogator on the vehicle to transmit initiation signals to cause the tire monitors to provide their signals;
arranging a plurality of antennas on the vehicle and coupling the antennas to the interrogator, each of the antennas being spaced apart from one another and associated with at least a portion of the plurality of tires, each antenna being spaced different distances from the tire monitors on the associated tires;
wirelessly transmitting the initiation signals from the interrogator to each of the tire monitors through the antennas to cause each tire monitor to provide signals containing information about one or more properties of the tire on which the tire monitor is arranged;
receiving the signals provided by the tire monitors at the antennas;
directing the signals from the antennas to the interrogator; and
determining a location of each tire monitor and thus a location of a tire on which the tire monitor is arranged by analyzing the signals provided by each tire monitor whereby the information provided by the tire monitors is thereby associatable with the tires.

Abstract
Method for obtaining information about tires on a vehicle includes arranging a tire monitor on each tire, arranging an interrogator on the vehicle, arranging antennas on the vehicle, each antenna being spaced apart from one another and associated with some tires and further being spaced different distances from the tire monitors on the associated tires, wirelessly transmitting initiation signals from the interrogator to each tire monitor through the antennas to cause each tire monitor to provide signals containing information about one or more properties of the tire on which the tire monitor is arranged, receiving the signals provided by the tire monitors at the antennas, directing the signals from the antennas to the interrogator, and determining a location of each tire monitor and thus a location of a tire on which the tire monitor is arranged by analyzing the signals provided by each tire monitor.

19. A vehicle including tires and a monitoring system for monitoring the tires, comprising:
-
a tire monitor arranged on each tire to provide signals containing information about one or more properties of the tire on which said tire monitor is arranged;
an interrogator arranged on a non-rotating part of the vehicle to transmit initiation signals to cause said tire monitors to provide their signals;
a plurality of antennas arranged on the vehicle and coupled to said interrogator, each of said antennas being spaced apart from one another and associated with a plurality of tires, each of said antennas being spaced different distances from said tire monitors on the associated tires, said interrogator being arranged to wirelessly transmit the initiation signals to said tire monitors through said antennas to cause each of said tire monitors to provide signals containing information about one or more properties of the tire on which said tire monitor is arranged, said signals provided by said tire monitors being received at said antennas and directed from said antennas to said interrogator; and
a processor coupled to said interrogator and arranged to determine a location of each of said tire monitors and thus a location of the tire on which said tire monitor is arranged by analyzing the signals provided by each of said tire monitors whereby the information provided by said tire monitors is thereby associatable with the tires. - View Dependent Claims (20)
