Abstract

A method and apparatus for dynamic adaptation of a configuration to a system environment. An embodiment of a method includes obtaining system information for a system. The system information is stored in a memory. A setting of an abstract configuration for the system is resolved, with the resolution of the setting being based at least in part on the system information.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

obtaining system information for a system;

storing the system information in a memory; and

resolving a setting of an abstract configuration for the system, the resolution of the setting being based at least in part on the system information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information provides links to information for an abstract configuration.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information is based at least in part on a system context for the system.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising performing a calculation on a system context data to generate system information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the memory is a main memory.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information comprises information regarding the hardware for the system.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information comprises a limitation on operation of the system.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information includes a number of nodes for the system.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the system information includes a maximum heap memory size for the system.

10. A server comprising:

a memory, the memory to hold system information regarding a system; and

a configuration engine to resolve a configuration element for the system, the resolution of an element of a configuration for the system being based at least in part on the system information

11. The server of claim 10, wherein the memory is a main memory of the server.

12. The server of claim 10, wherein the resolution of the configuration element includes the configuration engine inserting the system information from the memory into the configuration.

14. The server of claim 10, wherein the system information includes all information needed for resolution of the configuration.

13. The server of claim 13, wherein the system information is derived at least in part from a system context for the system.

15. A machine-readable medium having stored thereon data representing sequences of instructions that, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:

obtaining system data regarding a system from a system structure of the system;

storing the system data in a memory;

accessing the system data in the memory; and

determining a value of a setting for a configuration for the system, determining the value of the setting being based at least in part on the system data.

16. The medium of claim 15, wherein the data is based at least in part on a system context for the system.

17. The medium of claim 16, further comprising performing a calculation on a system context data to generate the system data.

18. The medium of claim 15, wherein the system data comprises information regarding the hardware for the system.

19. The medium of claim 15, wherein the system data comprises a limitation on operation of the system.
