Abstract

The method tracks keywords about a non-user of a computer and stores it in various contact profiles. The keywords in the contact profiles can be compared to stored content and content related to the keywords in the contact profile may be communicated to the user.

Claims

1. A method of creating a profile for a contact that is not a user of the method comprising:

accessing a contact profile for a contact that is not the user of the method;

using a context monitor to determine system usage that relates to the contact; and

storing in the contact profile data gathered from the context monitor.

2. A method of claim 1, further,comprising selecting content that is related to the contact data stored in the profile.

3. A method of claim 2, where the related content is advertisements.

4. A method of claim 2, further comprising automatically displaying the selected advertisements and one of selecting to view the selected advertisement.

5. A method of claim 2, further comprising displaying the selected advertisement based on a time stored in the contact profile.

6. A method of claim 1, further comprising communicating the data in the contact profile to an advertising manager that matches key words from the contact profile to key words in advertisements and communicates advertisements that have key word matches.

7. A method of claim 6, further comprising providing the advertisement that has the best match between the contact profile and the advertisement.

8. A method of claim 1, wherein the context manager is part of an operating system.

9. A method of claim 1, wherein the context manager is a web-based application.

10. A method of claim 1, further comprising allowing review of the keywords stored in the contact profile.

11. A method of claim 1, further comprising allowing modification of the keywords stored in the contact profile.

12. A method of claim 1, wherein the contact manager comprises an application that monitors at least one of:

File open events;

Notification events;

Window titles;

Web page content;

Internet history;

Keyboard input;

Print events;

Date events;

Event log; and

System events.

13. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions implementing a method for method of creating a profile for a contact that is not a user of the method comprising:

accessing a contact profile for a contact that is not the user of the method;

using a context monitor to determine system usage that relates to the contact;

storing in the contact profile data gathered from the context monitor; and

selecting an advertisement that is related to the contact data stored in the profile.

The computer readable medium of claim 13, further comprising computer executable code for communicating the data in the contact profile to an advertising manager that matches key words from the contact profile to key words in advertisements and communicates advertisements that have key word matches.

15. The computer readable medium of claim 13, further comprising computer executable code for providing the advertisement that has the best match between the contact profile and the advertisement.

16. The computer readable medium of claim 13, further comprising computer executable code for allowing modification of the keywords stored in the contact profile.

17. A computer system comprising a processor adapted to execute computer executable code, a memory for storing computer executable code and an input/output device, the system adapted to execute computer executable code for executing a method comprising:

accessing a contact profile for a contact that is not the user of the method;

using a context monitor to determine system usage that relates to the contact;

storing in the contact profile data gathered from the context monitor; and

selecting an advertisement that is related to the contact data stored in the profile.

18. The computer system of claim 17, further comprising computer executable code for communicating the data in the contact profile to an advertising manager that matches key words from the contact profile to key words in advertisements and communicates advertisements that have key word matches.

19. The computer system of claim 17, further comprising computer executable code for providing the advertisement that has the best match between the contact profile and the advertisement.

20. The computer system of claim 17, further comprising computer executable code for allowing modification of the keywords stored in the contact profile.
