Abstract

The present invention relates to phosphonate compounds, compositions containing them, processes for obtaining them, and their use for treating a variety of medical disorders, e.g., osteoporosis and other disorders of bone metabolism, cancer, viral infections, and the like.

Claims

1. A compound selected from the group consisting of a phosphonate of an antiviral compound of the formula:

2. The compound of claim 1, wherein said compound is in the form of an enantiomer, diastereoisomer, racemate or a mixture thereof.

3. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylglycerol.

4. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylpropanediol.

5. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to 1-S-alkylthioglycerol.

6. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkoxyalkanol.

7. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylethanediol.

8. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to octadecylpropanediol.

9. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylglycerol.

10. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylpropanediol.

11. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to 1-S-alkylthioglycerol.

12. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkoxyalkanol.

13. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to alkylethanediol.

14. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to hexadecylpropanediol.

15. The compound of claim 1 that is covalently linked to octadecylpropanediol.

16. A pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of an antiviral phosphonate compound of claim 1 in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

17. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 16 in a solid dosage form.

18. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 16 in a capsule, tablet, aerosol, solution, suspension or in a topical formulation.
