Abstract

Provided are apparatuses and methods in a mobile communication and content capturing device for controlling ownership and use of captured content. A mobile device capturing content of a user of a target device may automatically request authorization to use and own the captured content from the target device and user. The mobile device may detect the target device by comparing metadata associated with the captured content with device information of a target device. Alternatively, the capture device may communicate with a server to facilitate the authorization request process. The capture device may further establish a piconet with one or more intermediate wireless devices to detect and request authorization from a target device outside of the capture device'"'"'s wireless range. Tokens may further be implemented to reduce transmission and processing times of various communication information including authorization requests and content files.

Claims

1. A method for requesting authorization for content captured by a capture device, comprising the steps of:

storing the captured content in a content file;

detecting at least one device in proximity to the capture device;

transmitting an authorization request to the at least one device; and

receiving a response to the authorization request from the at least one device.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of storing the captured content in a content file comprises storing metadata with the captured content in the content file, wherein the metadata comprises information associated with the captured content.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of detecting at least one device in proximity to the capture device further comprises:

requesting device information from one or more devices in proximity to the capture device; and

comparing the device information of each of the one or more devices with the metadata in the content file.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of detecting at least one device in proximity to the capture device further comprises:

transmitting the metadata to one or more target devices; and

receiving a response from at least one of the one or more target devices indicating whether the device was in proximity.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the metadata comprises location information of the capturing device at the time the content was captured.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the step of transmitting the authorization request further comprises the steps of:

generating a token comprising the metadata and at least a portion of the captured content;

storing the authorization request in the token; and

transmitting the token to the at least one device.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of storing the response in the content file.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the response to the authorization request further comprises a request token, wherein the request token comprises a request for the captured content and identification information of a user of the at least one device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the capture device is a mobile phone with an integrated digital camera.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of transmitting the authorization request further comprises transmitting the content file to the at least one device.

11. A mobile device for capturing content, comprising:

a processor;

a display device;

a content capturing component; and

memory storing computer readable instructions, that, when executed by the processor, cause the device to perform a method for controlling ownership and use of captured content, comprising;

capturing content using the content capturing component;

storing the captured content in a content file;

detecting at least one mobile device in proximity to the mobile device;

transmitting an authorization request to the at least one detected mobile device; and

receiving a response to the authorization request from the at least one mobile device.

12. The mobile device of claim 11, comprising storing the authorization response in metadata of the content file.

13. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the content capturing component is a digital camera.

14. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the step of storing the captured content in a content file further comprises storing metadata in the content file, wherein the metadata comprises information associated with the captured content.

15. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein the step of transmitting the authorization request further comprises the steps of:

generating a token comprising metadata and a portion of the captured content;

storing the authorization request in the token; and

transmitting the token to the at least one detected mobile device.

16. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein the step of detecting at least one device in proximity to the capture device further comprises:

requesting device information from one or more devices in proximity to the capture device; and

comparing the device information of each of the one or more devices with the metadata in the content file.

17. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein the metadata comprises location information of the capturing device.

18. The mobile device of claim 14, wherein the metadata comprises at least one of an azimuth and elevation of the capturing device when the content was captured.

19. The mobile device of claim 11, further comprising one or more wireless communication components.

20. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the step of transmitting an authorization request further comprises transmitting the content file to the at least one mobile device.

21. A mobile device for authorizing the use of captured content, comprising:

a processor;

a display device;

a user input device; and

memory storing computer readable instructions, that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile device to perform a method for controlling ownership and use of captured content, comprising;

receiving metadata from a capturing device;

determining whether the mobile device is an authorizing device;

in response to a positive determination, requesting a content file and an authorization request from the capturing device;

rendering a content in the content file;

receiving user input indicating a response to the authorization request; and

transmitting the authorization response to the capturing device.

22. The mobile device of claim 21, wherein the response to the authorization request comprises a request to delete the content file.

23. The mobile device of claim 21, wherein the response to the authorization request comprises one or more restrictions on using the content file.

24. The mobile device of claim 21, wherein the step of rendering the content in the content file further comprises playing an audio recording through one or more speakers of the mobile device.

25. The mobile device of claim 21, further comprising one or more wireless communication components.

26. The mobile device of claim 21, wherein the metadata comprises location information of the capture device at the time the content was captured.

27. The mobile device of claim 21, wherein the step of determining the mobile device is an authorizing device further comprises comparing the received metadata with one or more characteristics of the mobile device.

28. A method for controlling authorization of captured content in a content file, comprising the steps of:

receiving an authorization request from a capturing device;

detecting at least one mobile device in proximity to the capturing device;

transmitting the authorization request to the at least one detected mobile device;

receiving a response to the authorization request from the at least one detected mobile device; and

transmitting the response to the capturing device.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the step of receiving an authorization request from a capturing device further comprises receiving the content file from the capturing device.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the step of transmitting the authorization request further comprises transmitting the content file to the at least one detected mobile device.

31. The method of claim 28, wherein the response to the authorization request comprises a request to delete the content.

32. The method of claim 28, wherein the step of detecting at least one mobile device in proximity to the capture device further comprises:

receiving metadata from the capture device;

requesting device information from one or more devices in proximity to the capture device; and

comparing the device information of each of the one or more devices with the metadata.

33. The method of claim 32, wherein the metadata comprises location information of the capturing device.

34. The method of claim 32, wherein the metadata comprises an azimuth and elevation of the capturing device at the time the content was captured.

35. A server, comprising:

a processor;

one or more wireless communication components; and

memory storing computer readable instructions, that, when executed by the processor, cause the server to perform a method for facilitating authorization communications, comprising;

receiving a content file and an authorization request from a capture device;

detecting at least one mobile device in proximity to the capture device;

transmitting the content file and the authorization request to the at least one detected mobile device;

receiving a response to the authorization request from the at least one detected mobile device; and

transmitting the response to the authorization request to the capturing device.

36. The server of claim 35, wherein the step of detecting at least one mobile device in proximity to the capture device further comprises:

extracting metadata from the content file;

requesting device information from one or more devices in proximity to the capture device; and

comparing the device information of each of the one or more devices with the metadata.

37. The server of claim 35, wherein the metadata comprises location information of the capturing device.

38. The server of claim 35, wherein the metadata comprises an azimuth and elevation of the capturing device at the time the content was captured.
