Abstract

A wireless communication system, comprising a host service, a wireless router system coupled to the host service, a wireless network coupling the wireless router system and a wireless mobile communication device (“mobile device”), adaptively delivers data to the mobile device in the wireless communication system. In another embodiment, a receive trigger is used by the host to initiate a session where messages are delivered to the mobile device. The host trigger consists of the receipt of a message from a host. Upon detection of a session, messages are sent to the device. If a session is inactive, login credentials are requested. Detection of a logoff trigger from the mobile device will terminate an existing session and current login credentials are also expired.

Claims

1. A method of enabling a wireless service session between a host service and a wireless mobile device across a wireless network, comprising the steps of:

detecting a trigger at one of the host service or the mobile device;

in response to the trigger detected, providing at least one login credential authenticating the at least one login credential provided for a predetermined authentication period; and

while the at least one login credential is authenticated, selectively enabling the wireless service session;

2. The method of claim 1 wherein if the trigger is a login trigger and the step of detecting is performed at the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the trigger is a host trigger and the step of detecting is performed at the host service.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the steps of providing is performed at the mobile device and wherein the steps of authenticating and selectively enabling are performed at the host service.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

providing at least one data message at the host service;

creating a notification message at the host service, the notification message being indicative of the at least one data message provided;

if the service session is enabled, delivering the notification message to the mobile device;

receiving from the mobile device a fetch request message in response to the notification message sent; and

in response to the fetch request message received and if the service session is enabled, delivering the at least one data message provided to the mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the fetch request message includes at least one other login credential and wherein prior to delivering the at least one data message provided to the mobile device, the method further comprising:

authenticating the at least one other login credential provided for another predetermined authentication period; and

selectively enabling the wireless service session for the other predetermined authentication period.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of selectively enabling the wireless service session while the at least one login credential is authenticated further comprises:

detecting at the mobile device a logoff trigger; and

disabling at the host service the wireless service session.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the at least one login credential includes at least one of a login, password, a shared public, a private key, a secret token and a virtual private network (VPN) token.

The method of claim 2 wherein detecting the login trigger comprises one of detecting a user logon, detecting a radio event, detecting a keyboard input event, detecting a thumbwheel activity event, detecting a display input event, detecting a power on/off, detecting an Auto On/Off or detecting a system ping update event.

10. The method of claim 3 wherein detecting the host trigger comprises one of receiving an e-mail message, receiving an instant message, receiving a SMS message, receiving a MMS message, receiving web site information or receiving a phone message.

11. The method of claim 7 wherein detecting at the mobile device the logoff trigger comprises one of detecting a radio off event, detecting an “

out of coverage”

event, detecting a user logoff event, or detecting an Auto On/Off.
