Abstract

A system and method for implementing personalized alerts utilizing a user registry in instant messenger. A first client logs on to a server utilizing an instant messenger program. The first client selects at least one attribute that describes at least one user in a user registry. After selecting the attributes, the first client selects a personalized alert to associate with the selected attributes. If a second client with characteristics described by the selected attributes sends the first client a message, the assigned personalized alert will be activated.

Claims

1. A computer-implementable method comprising:

logging on to at least one server;

selecting at least one attribute among a plurality of attributes utilized to describe at least one client among a plurality of clients in a user registry; and

assigning a unique notification to said at least one attribute.

2. The computer-implementable method according to claim 1, wherein said unique notification is an audio alert.

3. The computer-implementable method according to claim 1, further comprising:

in response to receiving a message from a client among said plurality of clients, parsing an entry corresponding to said client to determine if said client is described by said at least one attribute; and

in response to determining said client is described by said at least one attribute, activating said unique notification.

4. The computer-implementable method according to claim 1, wherein said logging on to said at least one server further comprises:

sending a collection of connection information to said at least one server to enable said at least one server to relay message among said plurality of members.

5. The system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to said processor; and

a computer-usable medium embodying computer program code, the computer-usable medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code comprising instructions executable by said processor and configured for;

logging on to at least one server;

selecting at least one attribute among a plurality of attributes utilized to describe at least one client among a plurality of clients in a user registry; and

assigning a unique notification to said at least one attribute.

6. The system according to claim 5, wherein said unique notification is an audio alert.

7. The system according to claim 5, wherein said instructions are further configured for:

in response to receiving a message from a client among said plurality of clients, parsing an entry corresponding to said client to determine if said client is described by said at least one attribute; and

in response to determining said client is described by said at least one attribute, activating said unique notification.

8. The system according to claim 5, wherein said instructions are further configured for:

sending a collection of connection information to said at least one server to enable said at least one server to relay message among said plurality of members.

9. A computer-usable medium embodying computer program code, said computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

logging on to at least one server;

selecting at least one attribute among a plurality of attributes utilized to describe at least one client among a plurality of clients in a user registry; and

assigning a unique notification to said at least one attribute.

10. The computer-usable medium according to claim 9, wherein said unique notification is an audio alert.

11. The computer-usable medium according to claim 9, wherein said embodied computer program code further comprises computer executable instructions configured for:

in response to receiving a message from a client among said plurality of clients, parsing an entry corresponding to said client to determine if said client is described by said at least one attribute; and

in response to determining said client is described by said at least one attribute, activating said unique notification.

12. The computer-usable medium according to claim 9, wherein said embodied computer program code further comprises computer executable instructions configured for:

sending a collection of connection information to said at least one server to enable said at least one server to relay message among said plurality of members.

13. The computer-usable medium according to claim 9, wherein said computer executable instructions are deployable to a client computer from a server at a remote location.

14. The computer-usable medium according to claim 9, wherein said computer executable instructions are provided by a service provider to a customer on an on-demand basis.
