Abstract

A coil support suitable for supporting a coil in a condensing unit includes a body and a protrusion extending from the body. The protrusion is configured to limit movement of the coil in at least one direction.

Claims

1. A coil support suitable for supporting a coil in a condensing unit, the coil support comprising:

a body comprising;

a first surface configured to engage with the coil; and

a second surface oriented at a first angle with respect to the first surface; and

a protrusion extending from the body and configured to limit movement of the coil.

2. The coil support of claim 1, w herein the protrusion is a wall extending from the body and configured to limit movement of the coil toward the second surface.

3. The coil support of claim 2, wherein the wall is integral with the first and second surfaces.

4. The coil support of claim 1, wherein the first angle is about 90°

.

5. The coil support of claim 2, wherein the wall is oriented at a second angle of less than about 180°

with respect to the first surface.

6. The coil support of claim 5, wherein the second angle is about 90°

.

7. The coil support of claim 1, wherein the body and protrusion are formed of a material selected from a group consisting of:

polymeric and co-polymeric material.

8. The coil support of claim 1, wherein the protrusion is configured to engage with the coil to limit movement of the coil.

9. An apparatus for supporting a coil in a heating and/or air conditioning unit, the apparatus comprising:

a body including a side surface; and

means for limiting movement of the coil towards the side surface of the body, the means protruding from the body.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein means for limiting movement of the coil towards the side surface of the body is a wall.

11. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the means for limiting movement of the coil towards the side surface of the body is a protrusion configured to engage with the coil.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the protrusion is a diamond shape.

13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the protrusion is an elongated rib.

14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein apparatus is formed of a material selected from a group consisting of:

polymeric and co-polymeric material.

15. A condensing unit comprising:

a cover including an interior surface;

a coil disposed within the cover;

a base pan connected to the cover and configured to receive condensation from the coil; and

a coil support disposed within the cover and comprising;

a first surface engaged with the coil and including a protrusion configured to limit movement of the coil toward the interior surface of the cover; and

a second surface opposite the first surface and adjacent to the base pan.

16. The condensing unit of claim 15, wherein the protrusion is a wall extending from the first surface and positioned between at least a part of the coil and the interior surface of the cover.

17. The condensing unit of claim 16, wherein the wall of the coil support is oriented at an angle of less than about 180°

with respect to the first surface of the coil support.

18. The condensing unit of claim 15, wherein at least part of the coil is deformed around the protrusion to discourage movement of the coil assembly.

19. The condensing unit of claim 15, wherein the protrusion of the coil support is integral with the first surface of the coil support.

20. The condensing unit of claim 15, wherein coil support is formed of a material selected from a group consisting of:

polymeric and co-polymeric material.
