Apparatus, method and medium for controlling image orientation
First Claim
1. An apparatus for controlling an orientation of image data, the apparatus comprising:
- a display panel being rotatable about at least one axis, the rotation of said display panel setting an orientation of the display panel, the display panel orientation being selectable according to each of a plurality of rotational angles, each rotational angle corresponding to an orientation mode for determining a display angle of original image data; and
an orientation mode detector, installed in said display panel, configured to detect the set orientation of the display panel and to determine the orientation mode based on the detected orientation.

Abstract
An apparatus, method, and medium for controlling image orientation are disclosed. An orientation mode detector measures multi-directional rotational angles of a display panel and determines an orientation mode for original image data based on the measured rotational angles. A system memory stores orientation parameters corresponding to a plurality of image orientation modes. A system controller initially acquires information indicating the orientation mode from the orientation mode detector, and it extracts orientation parameters corresponding to the acquired information from the system memory. Finally, a driver changes an orientation of the original image data according to the extracted orientation parameters.

7. An apparatus for controlling an orientation of image data, the apparatus comprising:
-
a display panel being rotatable about two axes, the rotation of said display panel setting a disposition of the display panel, the display panel disposition being selectable according to each of a plurality of discrete rotational angles, each rotational angle corresponding to an orientation mode for determining a display angle of original image data;
a first sensor, installed in said display panel, configured to detect a first rotational angle of said display panel about a first axis perpendicular to the display panel, said first sensor responsive to a controlled movement of said display panel on a ball hinge centrally disposed on a rear surface of said display panel; and
a second sensor, installed in said display panel, configured to detect a second rotational angle of said display panel about a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, said second sensor responsive to a controlled movement of said display panel on a pivoting hinge coupled to the ball hinge. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11)

12. A computer-readable medium storing program code for determining an orientation mode for original image data in a display system, which includes at least a display panel, a processor, memory, and a controller of image orientation and which, in response to a manual rotation of the display panel about at least one of at least two axes, causes the processor to execute the program code to perform:
-
(a) determining whether the display panel is rotated about a first axis of the at least two axes;
(b) when the determination in step (a) is true, determining whether a first rotational angle of the display panel about the first axis is 90 degrees;
(c) when the determination in step (b) is true, determining whether the display panel is rotated about a second axis of the at least two axes;
(d) when the determination in step (c) is true, determining whether a second rotational angle of the display panel about the second axis is 180 degrees;
(e) when the determination in step (d) is true, storing an orientation mode of 270 degrees in a memory;
(f) determining whether a request for access to the memory has been received from an image orientation controller; and
(g) when the request is made, transmitting an acknowledgement to the image orientation controller for authorizing access to the memory.
