Abstract

A method for managing a supply chain for a business enterprise in a manner that is applicable to many different business enterprises and a computer program product for performing the method are provided. The method includes creating a logistics data object for use in triggering a task related to site logistics processing for a business transaction. The method also includes creating a delivery data object for use in documenting an aspect of delivery related to the business transaction. The logistics data object and the delivery data object correspond to one another.

Claims

1. A computer program product tangibly embodied in an information carrier for managing a supply chain for a business enterprise in a manner that is applicable to many different business enterprises, the computer program product comprising:

a logistics component that includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising creating a logistics data object for use in triggering a task related to site logistics processing for a business transaction; and

a delivery component that includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising creating a delivery data object for use in documenting an aspect of delivery related to the business transaction,

wherein;

the logistics data object and the delivery data object correspond to one another, and

the logistics component and the delivery component perform operations as part of an integrated logistics execution process related to the business transaction.

2. The computer program product of claim 1 further comprising a transaction component that includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising creating an order object related to the business transaction,

wherein the logistics data object and the delivery data object are created based on the order object.

3. The computer program product of claim 2 wherein:

the delivery data object represents a delivery planning data object for use in documenting a planned delivery related to the business transaction,

the logistics component includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising sending to the delivery component the logistics data object, and

the delivery component includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising;

receiving, from the logistics component, the logistics data object, and

creating a delivery data object for use in documenting a shipment related to the business transaction.

4. The computer program product of claim 3 wherein:

the delivery component includes instructions that, when executed, perform operations comprising;

receiving confirmation of delivery of the shipment to a product recipient, and

creating a confirmed delivery data object for use in documenting receipt of the shipment by the product recipient.

5. The computer program product of claim 1 wherein creating a logistics data object comprises creating the logistics data object based on product inventory included in the site logistics location.

6. The computer program product of claim 1 wherein creating a logistics data object comprises creating the logistics data object based on packaging materials related executing logistics related to the business transaction.

7. The computer program product of claim 1 wherein the site logistics processing comprises controlling stock movement in a warehouse.

8. The computer program product of claim 7 wherein controlling stock movement in a warehouse comprises at least one of removing a product from stock held in the warehouse for delivery to a product recipient, loading a product on a vehicle for delivery to a product recipient, receiving and storing a product in the warehouse, and moving a product from one location in the warehouse to another location in the warehouse.

9. The computer program product of claim 1 wherein the site logistics processing comprises controlling an aspect of manufacturing in a factory.

10. A computer-implemented method for managing a supply chain for a business enterprise in a manner that is applicable to many different business enterprises, the method comprising:

creating a logistics data object for use in triggering a task related to site logistics processing for a business transaction; and

creating a delivery data object for use in documenting an aspect of delivery related to the business transaction,

wherein the logistics data object and the delivery data object correspond to one another.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising creating an order object related to the business transaction, wherein the logistics data object and the delivery data object are created based on the order object.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein the delivery data object represents a delivery planning data object for use in documenting a planned delivery related to the business transaction, the method further comprising:

sending to the delivery component the logistics data object;

receiving, from the logistics component, the logistics data object; and

creating a delivery data object for use in documenting a shipment related to the business transaction.

13. The method of claim 12 further comprising:

receiving confirmation of delivery of the shipment to a product recipient; and

creating a confirmed delivery data object for use in documenting receipt of the shipment by the product recipient.

14. The method of claim 10 wherein creating a logistics data object comprises creating the logistics data object based on product inventory included in the site logistics location.

15. The method of claim 10 wherein creating a logistics data object comprises creating the logistics data object based on packaging materials related executing logistics related to the business transaction.

16. The method of claim 10 wherein the site logistics processing comprises controlling stock movement in a warehouse.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein controlling stock movement in a warehouse comprises at least one of removing a product from stock held in the warehouse for delivery to a product recipient, loading a product on a vehicle for delivery to a product recipient, receiving and storing a product in the warehouse, and moving a product from one location in the warehouse to another location in the warehouse.

18. The method of claim 10 wherein the site logistics processing comprises controlling an aspect of manufacturing in a factory.
