Abstract

One or more inputs, such as one or more results of spins of one or more slot machine reels, to a slots game are determined from one or more event results from a sporting event. A result of the slots game is based at least on the one or more determined inputs.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving one or more event results of a sporting event;

for each of a plurality of bets, determining a result of a simulated spin of a first slot machine reel by applying a set of rules to a first portion of the one or more event results from the sporting event;

for each of the plurality of bets, determining a result of a simulated spin of a second slot machine reel by applying the set of rules to a second portion of the one or more event results from the sporting event;

for each of the plurality of bets, determining a result of a simulated spin of a third slot machine reel by applying the set of rules to a third portion of the one or more event results from the sporting event; and

for each of the plurality of bets, determining a result of a slots game based at least on the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sporting event comprises at least one of:

a horse race,

a dog race,

an automobile race,

a baseball game,

a basketball game,

a football game,

a soccer game,

a hockey game,

a jai alai game, and

a cricket match.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more event results comprise at least one of:

a result corresponding to a completion of the sporting event, and

a result corresponding to an event during a duration of the sporting event.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the plurality of bets comprises a bet on the respective slots game.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

for each of the plurality of bets, determining a result of a simulated spin of at least one additional slot machine reel by applying the set of rules to at least one additional portion of the one or more event results from the sporting event;

wherein each of the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, third, and each additional slot machine reels for each bet comprises one of a plurality of slot machine symbols; and

wherein for each of the plurality of bets, determining the result of the slots game comprises determining the result of the slots game based at least on the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, third, and each additional slot machine reels.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the sporting event comprises a number of participants; and

the method further comprises selecting the set of rules from a plurality of sets of rules based on the number of participants in the sporting event.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the sporting event comprises a race event.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein selecting the set of rules comprises selecting the set of rules after receiving the one or more event results.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining the sporting event from a plurality of sporting events; and

assigning each of the plurality of bets to the sporting event.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein determining the sporting event comprises determining the sporting event based at least on a time that each of the plurality of bets was placed.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein determining the sporting event comprises determining the sporting event based on at least one of:

a type of the sporting event,

a number of participants in the sporting event,

a scheduled start time of the sporting event,

a completion time of the sporting event, and

when official results of the sporting event will be posted.

12. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

receiving the plurality of bets, wherein each of the plurality of bets comprises a bet on the respective slots game; and

determining, after receiving the plurality of bets, the sporting event from the plurality of sporting events.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the sporting event comprises a race event comprising a plurality of participants;

each of the participants in the race event comprises a numerical identifier; and

the one or more event results comprise the numerical identifier of the participant finishing in each of one or more finishing positions.

14. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising determining whether each of the plurality of bets comprises a winning bet based on the result of the slots game for that bet.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein for at least one of the plurality of bets determining the result of the slots game comprises determining the result of the slots game based on the set of rules.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein for at least two of the plurality of bets the result of the respective slots game is the same.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein for at least two of the plurality of bets the result of the respective slots game is different.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels are the same for each of the plurality of bets.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein for at least two of the plurality of bets at least one of the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels between the at least two bets is different.

20. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels for each bet comprises applying the selected set of rules to the received one or more event results from the sporting event and to one or more bet parameters associated with that bet.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the one or more bet parameters associated with a particular bet comprise at least one parameter selected by a user who placed the bet.

22. The method of claim 20, wherein the one or more bet parameters associated with a particular bet comprise at least one parameter determined randomly.

23. The method of claim 20, wherein:

the sporting event comprises a race event comprising a number of participants, each participant comprising a numerical identifier;

the one or more bet parameters associated with each bet comprise an indication of one or more finishing positions in the race event;

the one or more event results comprise the numerical identifier of the participant finishing in each of one or more finishing positions in the race event; and

the set of rules comprises rules for determining the results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels for each bet based on the numerical identifiers of the participants that finished in each of the one or more finishing positions indicated by the one or more bet parameters associated with that bet.

24. The method of claim 1, wherein:

one or more bet parameters are associated with each bet;

the sporting event comprises a race event comprising a number of participants, each participant comprising a numerical identifier;

the one or more bet parameters associated with each bet comprise an indication of one or more finishing positions in the race event;

the one or more event results comprise the numerical identifier of the participant finishing in each of one or more finishing positions in the race event;

the set of rules comprises an algorithm and a set of first relationships, a set of second relationships, and a set of third relationships, each first relationship comprising a correlation between a result of a simulated spin of a first slot machine reel and one or more possible results of the algorithm, each second relationship comprising a correlation between a result of a simulated spin of a second slot machine reel and one or more possible results of the algorithm, and each third relationship comprising a correlation between a result of a simulated spin of a third slot machine reel and one or more possible results of the algorithm; and

determining the results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels for each bet comprises;

applying the algorithm to the numerical identifiers of the participants that finished in each of the one or more finishing positions indicated by the one or more bet parameters associated with that bet to determine one or more first results of the algorithm, one or more second results of the algorithm, and one or more third results of the algorithm;

determining, based on the set of first relationships, the result of the simulated spin of the first slot machine reel corresponding to the one or more determined first results of the applied algorithm;

determining, based on the set of second relationships, the result of the simulated spin of the second slot machine reel corresponding to the one or more determined second results of the applied algorithm; and

determining, based on the set of third relationships, the result of the simulated spin of the third slot machine reel corresponding to the one or more determined third results of the applied algorithm.

25. The method of claim 1, wherein the one or more event results of the sporting event are neither random nor predictable.

26. The method of claim 1, wherein each of the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels for each bet comprises one of a plurality of slot machine symbols.

27. An apparatus comprising a computing device operable to perform the method of claim 1.

28. A method, comprising:

receiving a bet on a slots game;

receiving one or more event results of a sporting event;

determining a result of a simulated spin of each of a first, second, and third slot machine reel by applying a set of rules to the one or more event results from the sporting event; and

determining a result of the slots game based at least on the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein each of the determined results of the simulated spins of the first, second, and third slot machine reels comprises one of a plurality of slot machine symbols.

30. The method of claim 28, further comprising:

determining the sporting event from a plurality of sporting events; and

assigning the bet to the sporting event.

31. The method of claim 30, further comprising determining the sporting event after receiving the bet on the slots game.
