Abstract

Method and system for presenting photos on a website are disclosed. The method includes selecting one or more thumbnail images in a browser window on a website in response to a select command from a user, dragging the one or more thumbnail images to a drop target in response to a drag command from the user, displaying the one or more thumbnail images in transit to the drop target as collapsible thumbnail images, and dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the drop target in response to a drop command from the user.

Claims

1. A method for presenting photos on a website, comprising:

selecting one or more thumbnail images in a browser window on a website in response to a select command from a user;

dragging the one or more thumbnail images to a drop target in response to a drag command from the user;

displaying the one or more thumbnail images in transit to the drop target as collapsible thumbnail images; and

dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the drop target in response to a drop command from the user.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

displaying the collapsible thumbnail images as scaled down thumbnail images in the drop target; and

displaying the one or more thumbnail images in the browser window as grayed-out thumbnail images.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

displaying a corresponding count of the collapsible thumbnail images indicating the number of photos in transit; and

dropping the collapsible thumbnail images and the corresponding count to the drop target in response to a second drop command from the user.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

determining a number of thumbnail images for display in a user viewable window automatically in response to a change in size of the user viewable window; and

displaying the number of thumbnail images in the user viewable window.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the determining comprises:

partitioning the user viewable window into rows and columns according to dimensions of the user viewable window and dimensions of each thumbnail image; and

computing the number of thumbnail images for filling the rows and columns of the user viewable window.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the displaying comprises:

retrieving URLs of the corresponding thumbnail images; and

loading the corresponding thumbnail images for display in the user viewable window.

7. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

highlighting a valid drop target in response to a determination the valid drop target is permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images; and

dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the valid drop target in response to a third drop command from the user.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

displaying no visual modification to an invalid drop target in response to a determination the invalid drop target is not permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images;

dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the invalid drop target in response to a fourth drop command from the user; and

returning the collapsible thumbnail images to their original locations in the browser window.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

pointing a cursor over a thumbnail image in the photo tray in response to a point command from the user; and

displaying the thumbnail image as a scaled up thumbnail image.

10. The method of claim 1 further includes a step selected from the group consisting at least one of:

selecting a photo in response to the user dragging a cursor over an area covering the photo;

selecting a photo in response to the user clicking the photo directly; and

selecting all photos in the browser screen in response to the user depressing Control and A keys together.

11. A system for presenting photos on a website, comprising:

one or more servers for interfacing between client devices through a communication network, the one or more servers further comprise;

logic for selecting one or more thumbnail images in a browser window on a website in response to a select command from a user;

logic for dragging the one or more thumbnail images to a drop target in response to a drag command from the user;

logic for displaying the one or more thumbnail images in transit to the drop target as collapsible thumbnail images; and

logic for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the drop target in response to a drop command from the user.

12. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

logic for displaying the collapsible thumbnail images as scaled down thumbnail images in the drop target; and

logic for displaying the one or more thumbnail images in the browser window as grayed-out thumbnail images.

13. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

logic for displaying a corresponding count of the collapsible thumbnail images indicating the number of photos in transit; and

logic for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images and the corresponding count to the drop target in response to a second drop command from the user.

14. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

logic for determining a number of thumbnail images for display in a user viewable window automatically in response to a change in size of the user viewable window; and

logic for displaying the number of thumbnail images in the user viewable window.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the logic for determining comprises:

logic for partitioning the user viewable window into rows and columns according to dimensions of the user viewable window and dimensions of each thumbnail image; and

logic for computing the number of thumbnail images for filling the rows and columns of the user viewable window.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the logic for displaying comprises:

logic for retrieving URLs of the corresponding thumbnail images; and

logic for loading the corresponding thumbnail images for display in the user viewable window.

17. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

logic for highlighting a valid drop target in response to a determination the valid drop target is permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images; and

logic for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the valid drop target in response to a third drop command from the user.

18. The system of claim 17 further comprising:

logic for displaying no visual modification to an invalid drop target in response to a determination the invalid drop target is not permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images;

logic for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the invalid drop target in response to a fourth drop command from the user; and

logic for returning the collapsible thumbnail images to their original locations in the browser window.

19. The system of claim 11 further comprising:

logic for pointing a cursor over a thumbnail image in the photo tray in response to a point command from the user; and

logic for displaying the thumbnail image as a scaled up thumbnail image.

20. The system of claim 11 further includes logic selected from the group consisting at least one of:

logic for selecting a photo in response to the user dragging a cursor over an area covering the photo;

logic for selecting a photo in response to the user clicking the photo directly; and

logic for selecting all photos in the browser screen in response to the user depressing Control and A keys together.

21. A computer program product for presenting photos on a website, comprising a medium storing executable program code, the computer program product comprising:

code for selecting one or more thumbnail images in a browser window on a website in response to a select command from a user;

code for dragging the one or more thumbnail images to a drop target in response to a drag command from the user;

code for displaying the one or more thumbnail images in transit to the drop target as collapsible thumbnail images; and

code for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the drop target in response to a drop command from the user.

22. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising:

code for displaying the collapsible thumbnail images as scaled down thumbnail images in the drop target; and

code for displaying the one or more thumbnail images in the browser window as grayed-out thumbnail images.

23. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising:

code for displaying a corresponding count of the collapsible thumbnail images indicating the number of photos in transit; and

code for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images and the corresponding count to the drop target in response to a second drop command from the user.

24. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising:

code for determining a number of thumbnail images for display in a user viewable window automatically in response to a change in size of the user viewable window; and

code for displaying the number of thumbnail images in the user viewable window.

25. The computer program product of claim 24, wherein the code for determining comprises:

code for partitioning the user viewable window into rows and columns according to dimensions of the user viewable window and dimensions of each thumbnail image; and

code for computing the number of thumbnail images for filling the rows and columns of the user viewable window.

26. The computer program product of claim 24, wherein the code for displaying comprises:

code for retrieving URLs of the corresponding thumbnail images; and

code for loading the corresponding thumbnail images for display in the user viewable window.

27. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising:

code for highlighting a valid drop target in response to a determination the valid drop target is permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images; and

code for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the valid drop target in response to a third drop command from the user.

28. The computer program product of claim 27 further comprising:

code for displaying no visual modification to an invalid drop target in response to a determination the invalid drop target is not permitted to receive the collapsible thumbnail images;

code for dropping the collapsible thumbnail images to the invalid drop target in response to a fourth drop command from the user; and

code for returning the collapsible thumbnail images to their original locations in the browser window.

29. The computer program product of claim 21 further comprising:

code for pointing a cursor over a thumbnail image in the photo tray in response to a point command from the user; and

code for displaying the thumbnail image as a scaled up thumbnail image.

30. The computer program product of claim 21 further includes code selected from the group consisting at least one of:

code for selecting a photo in response to the user dragging a cursor over an area covering the photo;

code for selecting a photo in response to the user clicking the photo directly; and

code for selecting all photos in the browser screen in response to the user depressing Control and A keys together.
