Abstract

There are provided a word search apparatus, a word search method, and a computer program product. A words dictionary, and a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character and a character are used to thereby search for, from the words dictionary, a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching. Only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns is extracted from a search result of the words dictionary to generate a part of character string. A selection of one part of character string among the generated parts of character strings is received, and only a word including the selected part of character string is extracted from the search result based on the words dictionary, so that the extracted word is displayed.

Claims

1. A word search apparatus comprising:

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data;

a handwritten character input device for receiving an input of said handwritten character;

a pattern matching means for matching between said handwritten character received by said handwritten character input device and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary;

a word extracting means for extracting a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns;

a part of character string generating means for extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

means for receiving a selection of one part of character string from the generated parts of character strings;

means for extracting only a word including the selected a part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

means for displaying the extracted word.

3. The word search apparatus according to claim 1, comprising

means for counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

and

means for determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value, wherein

only when said means determines that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, said character string generating means generates said part of character string, while when said means determines that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, a selection from the search result of said words dictionary is received.

2. A word search apparatus comprising:

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data; and

a handwritten character input device for receiving an input of said handwritten character, in which

a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching between said handwritten character received by said handwritten character input device and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary, further comprising;

a part of character string generating means for extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

a candidate character extracting means for extracting a candidate character for every character based on the generated a part of character string;

means for receiving a selection of one candidate character among the extracted candidate characters;

a part of character string reconstructing means for reconstructing said part of character string based on the selected candidate character;

means for extracting only a word including the reconstructed part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

means for displaying the extracted word.

4. The word search apparatus according to claim 2, comprising

means for counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

and

means for determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value, wherein

only when said means determines that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, said character string generating means generates said part of character string, while when said means determines that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, a selection from the search result of said words dictionary is received.

5. A word search apparatus comprising:

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data; and

a handwritten character input device for receiving an input of said handwritten character, comprising a processor capable for performing the steps of;

matching between said handwritten character received by said handwritten character input device and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary;

extracting a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns;

extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

receiving a selection of one part of character string among the generated parts of character strings;

extracting only a word including the selected a part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

displaying the extracted word.

7. The word search apparatus according to claim 5, comprising a processor further capable for performing the steps of

counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

and

determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value, wherein

only when it is determined that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, said part of character string is generated, while it is determined that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, a selection from the search result of said words dictionary is received.

6. A word search apparatus comprising:

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data; and

a handwritten character input device for receiving an input of said handwritten character, comprising a processor capable for performing the steps of;

matching between said handwritten character received by said handwritten character input device and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary;

extracting a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns;

extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

extracting a candidate character for every character based on the generated part of character string;

receiving a selection of one candidate character among the extracted candidate characters;

reconstructing the part of character string based on the selected candidate character;

extracting only a word including the reconstructed part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

displaying the extracted word.

8. The word search apparatus according to claim 6, comprising a processor further capable for performing the steps of:

counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary; and

determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value, wherein

only when it is determined that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, said part of character string is generated, while it is determined that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, a selection from the search result of said words dictionary is received.

9. A word search method using

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

and

a character recognition, dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data, in which

an input of a handwritten character is received, and a words including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching between the received handwritten character and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary, wherein

the method comprises the steps of;

extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

receiving a selection of one part of character string among the generated parts of character strings;

extracting only a word including the selected part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

displaying the extracted word.

11. The word search method according to claim 9, further comprising the steps of:

counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value; and

only when it is determined that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, said part of character string is generated, while it is determined that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, a selection from the search result of said words dictionary is received.

10. A word search method, in which

an input of a handwritten character is received, and a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching between the received handwritten character, and a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character and a character corresponding to said coordinate data is searched for from a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words, wherein

the method comprises the steps of:

extracting only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

extracting a candidate character for every character based on the generated part of character string;

receiving a selection of one candidate character among the extracted candidate characters;

reconstructing the part of character string based on the selected candidate character;

extracting only as word including the reconstructed part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

displaying the extracted word.

12. The word search method according to claim 10, further comprising the steps of:

counting the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

determining whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value; and

only when it is determined that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, generating said part of character string, while it is determined that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, receiving a selection from the search result of said words dictionary.

13. A recording medium for being recorded a computer program product using

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

and

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data, in which

an input of a handwritten character is received, and a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching between the received handwritten character and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary, wherein

the computer program product recorded in the recording medium comprises the steps of;

causing a computer to extract only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

causing the computer to receive a selection of one part of character string among the generated parts of character strings;

causing the computer to extract only a word including the selected part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

causing the computer to display the extracted word.

15. The recording medium for being recorded the computer program product according to claim 13, wherein

the computer program product recorded in the recording medium comprises the steps of:

causing the computer to count the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

causing the computer to determine whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value; and

causing the computer to, only when said means determines that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, generate said part of character string by said character string generating means, while when said means determines that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, receive a selection from the search result of said words dictionary.

14. A recording medium for being recorded a computer program product using

a words dictionary for storing a plurality of words;

and

a character recognition dictionary for storing coordinate data of a standard character pattern of a handwritten character, and a character corresponding to said coordinate data, in which

an input of a handwritten character is received, and a word including a character corresponding to one or a plurality of character patterns extracted by performing a pattern matching between the received handwritten character and said character recognition dictionary is searched for from said words dictionary, wherein

the computer program product recorded in the recording medium comprises the steps of;

causing a computer to extract only a character string corresponding to one or a plurality of said character patterns from a search result of said words dictionary to generate a part of character string;

causing the computer to extract a candidate character for every character based on the generated part of character string;

causing the computer to receive a selection of one candidate character among the extracted candidate characters;

causing the computer to reconstruct the part of character string based on the selected candidate character;

causing the computer to extract only a word including the reconstructed part of character string from the search result based on said words dictionary; and

causing the computer to display the extracted word.

16. The recording medium for being recorded the computer program product according to claim 14, wherein

the computer program product recorded in the recording medium comprises the steps of:

causing the computer to count the number of searched words based on the search result of said words dictionary;

causing the computer to determine whether or not the number of counted words is larger than a predetermined value; and

causing the computer to, only when said means determines that the number of counted words is larger than the predetermined value, generate said part of character string by said character string generating means, while when said means determines that the number of counted words is not larger than the predetermined value, receive a selection from the search result of said words dictionary.
