Abstract

A display system and a method of controlling a display system are provided. The display system may include a receiving device to transmit a power control signal across a wireless communication link according to a power on/off command inputted from a user, to receive an audio/video (A/V) signal, to display the A/V signal, and to transmit an acknowledgment signal of the A/V signal. The display system may further include a transmitting device to turn on/off in response to a power control signal received from the receiving device, to transmit the A/V signal to the receiving device, and to control a power thereof according to whether the acknowledgement signal of the A/V signal has arrived.

Claims

1. A display system comprising:

a first controller to provide a command;

a first wireless communication module to transmit a control signal in response to the command from the first controller, the first wireless communication module configured to receive or transmit audio or video signals; and

a second wireless communication module to receive the control signal from the first wireless communication module, the second wireless communication module configured to receive or transmit audio or video signals, the second wireless communication module including a second controller to adjust power of the second wireless communication module based at least on the received control signal.

2. The display system according to claim 1, wherein the second wireless communication module further includes:

a power switch to provide a signal to turn the power of the second wireless communication module on or off in response to an input of the user, wherein the second controller to control the power to be on or off based on the signal from the power switch or the control signal received from the first wireless communication module.

3. The display system according to claim 1, wherein the second wireless communication module is controlled to have a power state similar to the power state of the first wireless communication module.

4. The display system according to claim 1, wherein the first wireless communication module corresponds to a receiving device and the second wireless communication module corresponds to a transmitting device.

5. The display system according to claim 4, wherein the receiving device comprises a television and the transmitting device transmits broadcasting signals to the television.

6. The display system according to claim 1, wherein the second wireless communication module includes:

a wireless receiver to receive a signal transmitted from the receiving device across a wireless communication link;

a wireless transmitter to transmit audio/video (A/V) signals to the first wireless communication module; and

a controller to control the power of the second wireless communication module and transmission of the A/V signal.

7. The display system according to claim 1, wherein the first wireless communication module includes:

a remote signal receiver to receive a user request command from the first controller;

a controller to transmit the control signal to the second wireless communication module based on the user request command received from the remote signal receiver, and to transmit an acknowledgement signal of an audio/visual (A/V) signal in response to receipt of the A/V signal from the second wireless communication module;

a wireless transmitter to transmit signals to the second wireless communication module; and

a wireless receiver to receive signals from the second wireless communication module.

8. A display system comprising:

a receiving device to transmit a control signal across a wireless communication link, to receive an audio/video (A/V) signal, and to transmit an acknowledgment signal of the A/V signal; and

a transmitting device to be adjusted in response to the control signal transmitted from the receiving device, to transmit the A/V signal to the receiving device, and to adjust a characteristic of the transmitting device based on whether the acknowledgement signal has been received from the receiving device.

9. The display system according to claim 8, further comprising a remote controller to transmit a user request command to the receiving device.

10. The display system according to claim 8, further comprising a plurality of additional receiving devices.

11. The display system according to claim 8, wherein the transmitting device includes:

a wireless receiver to receive signals transmitted from the receiving device across the wireless communication link;

a wireless transmitter to transmit the A/V signal to the receiving device; and

a controller to control power of the transmitting device and transmission of the A/V signal.

12. The display system according to claim 8, wherein the receiving device includes:

a remote signal receiver to receive a user request command received from a remote controller;

a controller to transmit the control signal to the transmitting device based on the user request command received through the remote signal receiver, and to transmit the acknowledgement signal of the A/V signal based on arrival of the A/V signal from the transmitting device;

a wireless transmitter to transmit signals to the transmitting device; and

a wireless receiver to receive signals from the transmitting device.

13. The display system according to claim 8, wherein the receiving device comprises a television and the transmitting device transmits broadcasting signals to the television.

14. A method of controlling a display system comprising:

transmitting an audio/video (A/V) signal from a first device to a second device;

transmitting an A/V acknowledgement signal from the second device to the first device during prescribed intervals of time when the second device receives the A/V signal; and

turning off the power of the first device if the acknowledgment signal has not been received at the first device during a predetermined period of time.

15. The method according to claim 14, wherein the predetermined period of time is the same as each prescribed interval.

16. The method according to claim 14, wherein the predetermined period of time is different from each prescribed interval.

17. The method according to claim 14, further comprising the first device receiving a broadcasting signal from a broadcasting service provider and transmitting the received broadcasting signal to the second device.

18. The method according to claim 14, further comprising the second device receiving a broadcasting signal from the first device and displaying the received broadcasting signal.

19. The method according to claim 14, further comprising turning off power to the first device if the power to the second device is turned off.

20. A method of controlling a display system comprising:

receiving a control signal at a receiving device;

transmitting the control signal from the receiving device to the transmitting device across a wireless communication link; and

adjusting a characteristic of the transmitting device in response to the transmitting device receiving the control signal.

21. The method according to claim 20, further comprising transmitting audio/visual (A/V) information from the transmitting device to the receiving device across the wireless communication link, and displaying visual information at the receiving device.

22. The method according to claim 21, further comprising:

transmitting an acknowledgment signal from the receiving device to the transmitting device across the wireless communication link in response to the receiving device receiving the A/V information.

23. The method according to claim 22, further comprising:

turning off the transmitting device when the transmitting device fails to receive the acknowledgment signal after the transmitting device transmits the A/V information.

24. The method according to claim 20, wherein the receiving device comprises a television and the transmitting device transmits broadcasting signals to the television.

25. The method according to claim 20, wherein adjusting the characteristic comprises adjusting a power level of the transmitting device.
