Abstract
A soybean cultivar designated S050222 is disclosed. The invention relates to the seeds of soybean cultivar S050222, to the plants of soybean S050222, to plant parts of soybean cultivar S050222 and to methods for producing a soybean plant produced by crossing soybean cultivar S050222 with itself or with another soybean variety. The invention also relates to methods for producing a soybean plant containing in its genetic material one or more transgenes and to the transgenic soybean plants and plant parts produced by those methods. This invention also relates to soybean cultivars or breeding cultivars and plant parts derived from soybean variety S050222, to methods for producing other soybean cultivars, lines or plant parts derived from soybean cultivar S050222 and to the soybean plants, varieties, and their parts derived from use of those methods. The invention further relates to hybrid soybean seeds, plants and plant parts produced by crossing the cultivar S050222 with another soybean cultivar.

19. A method of introducing a desired trait into soybean cultivar S050222 wherein the method comprises:
-
a. crossing a S050222 plant, wherein a representative sample of seed was deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-8274, with a plant of another soybean cultivar that comprises a desired trait to produce progeny plants wherein the desired trait is selected from the group consisting of male sterility, herbicide resistance, insect resistance, modified fatty acid metabolism, modified carbohydrate metabolism, or decreased phvtate content, and resistance to bacterial disease, fungal disease or viral disease;
b. selecting one or more progeny plants that have the desired trait to produce selected progeny plants;
c. crossing the selected progeny plants with the S050222 plants to produce backcross progeny plants;
d. selecting for backcross progeny plants that have the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar S050222 listed in Table 1; and
e. repeating steps (c) and (d) three or more times in succession to produce selected fourth or higher backcross progeny plants that comprise the desired trait and all of the physiological and morphological characteristics of soybean cultivar S050222 listed in Table 1. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21, 22, 23)
