Abstract

An air cleaner for an enclosed electronic device such as an electronic slot machine, for use in areas that have a high level of air contamination from cigarette smoking such as casinos, includes an active field polarized media air cleaner or other filters for removing sub-micron particles, tars and/or volatile organic compounds (VOC'"'"'s). In addition, a shared air cleaner for removing sub-micron particles, tars and/or VOCs is coupled to a plurality of enclosed electronic devices, such as a cluster of electronic slot machines.

Claims

1. An apparatus in combination:

an electronic device having an enclosure enclosing electronic components therein;

a filter that removes sub-micron particles from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said electronic device; and

said outlet port of said filter being coupled to said enclosure enclosing said electronic device.

2. An apparatus in combination:

an electronic device having an enclosure enclosing electronic components therein;

a filter that removes tars from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said electronic device; and

said outlet port of said filter being coupled to said enclosure enclosing said electronic device.

3. An apparatus in combination:

an electronic device having an enclosure enclosing electronic components therein;

a filter that removes VOCs from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said electronic device; and

said outlet port of said filter being coupled to said enclosure enclosing said electronic device.

4. An apparatus in combination:

an electronic device having an enclosure enclosing electronic components therein;

an active field polarized media air cleaner filter that removes one of sub-micron particles, tars or VOCs from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said electronic device; and

said outlet port of said filter being coupled to said enclosure enclosing said electronic device.

5. An apparatus in combination:

an electronic device having an enclosure enclosing electronic components therein;

a filter that removes gas phase contaminants from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said electronic device; and

said outlet port of said filter being coupled to said enclosure enclosing said electronic device.

6. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

a filter that removes sub-micron particles from the air in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

7. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

a filter that removes tars from the air in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

8. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

a filter that removes VOCs from the air in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

9. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

an active field polarized media air cleaner filter that removes one of sub-micron particles, tars or VOCs from the air in the vicinity of said electronic device, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

10. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

a filter that removes gas phase contaminants from the air in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

11. An apparatus in combination:

First and second electronic devices having respective first and second enclosures enclosing respective electronic components therein;

a filter that removes contaminants from the air in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices, said filter having an inlet port into which air enters and an outlet port from which air is exhausted;

said inlet port of said filter being positioned in the vicinity of said first and second electronic devices; and

ductwork coupled to said outlet port, said ductwork dividing air from said outlet port into a first portion of cleaned air and a second portion of cleaned air,

said ductwork coupling said first portion of cleaned air to said first enclosure enclosing said first electronic device; and

said ductwork coupling said second portion of cleaned air to said second enclosure enclosing said second electronic device.

12. An apparatus in accordance with claim 11, wherein said filter removes sub-micron particles from air flowing through said filter.

13. An apparatus in accordance with claim 11, wherein said filter removes sub-micron tar from the air flowing through said filter.

14. An apparatus in accordance with claim 11, wherein said filter removes VOC'"'"'s from the air flowing through said filter.

15. An apparatus in accordance with claim 11, wherein said filter is an active field polarized media air cleaner filter that removes one of sub-micron particles, tars or VOCs from the air flowing through said filter.

16. An apparatus in accordance with claim 11, wherein said filter removes gas phase contaminants from the air flowing through said filter.
