Abstract

A method of transmitting subsequent sub-packets in a wireless communication system using a hybrid automatic request (HARQ) technique is disclosed. The method includes receiving feedback information from at least one receiving end, transmitting a transmit packet via at least one overhead channel, wherein the transmit packet includes information on carrier and antenna combination selected for subsequent transmission, and transmitting at least one sub-packet according to the selected carrier and antenna combination.

Claims

1. A method of transmitting subsequent sub-packets in a wireless communication system using a hybrid automatic request (HARQ) technique, the method comprising:

receiving feedback information from at least one receiving end;

transmitting a transmit packet via at least one overhead channel, wherein the transmit packet includes information on carrier and antenna combination selected for subsequent transmission; and

transmitting at least one sub-packet according to the selected carrier and antenna combination.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting the feedback information to at least one transmitting end;

receiving the transmit packet; and

receiving and decoding the at least one sub-packet received via the selected carrier and antenna.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the overhead channel is a forward link channel.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the transmit packet further includes information regarding at least one sector or cell.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the feedback information is channel quality information (CQI).

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the selected carrier and antenna combination is same as previous transmission.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the selected carrier and antenna combination is different from previous transmission.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the feedback information is transmitted periodically or aperiodically.

9. A method of transmitting subsequent sub-packets in a wireless communication system using a hybrid automatic request (HARQ) technique, the method comprising:

receiving feedback information from at least one receiving end; and

transmitting at least one subsequent sub-packet using a transmission format different from a transmission format of a previously transmitted at least one sub-packet based on a most recent feedback information.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

transmitting the feedback information to at least one transmitting end;

receiving the at least one sub-packet based on the transmission format different from the transmission format of the previously transmitted at least one sub-packet.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the transmission format refers to modulated format.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein the feedback information is channel quality information (CQI).

13. The method of claim 9, wherein the at least one sub-packet is transmitted on multiple carrier and antenna simultaneously.

14. A method of transmitting feedback information in a wireless communication system, the method comprising transmitting the feedback information to at least one transmitting end, wherein the feedback information includes an indication to a selection of a combination in a sub-active set.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information is channel quality information (CQI) or a data rate control (DRC).

16. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information is transmitted periodically or aperiodically.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein the selection of the combination is based on channel quality.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein the sub-active set includes an index of various combinations of at least one antenna and at least one carrier.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein the sub-active set includes an index of various combinations of at least one antenna, at least one carrier, and at least one sector/cell.

20. The method of claim 14, wherein the sub-active set has a size that varies depending on a number of antennas, carriers, or sectors/cells.

21. The method of claim 14, wherein a number of sub-active set corresponds to a number of assigned carriers.

22. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes a combined feedback channel and wherein the combined feedback channel is used to indicate a set of antennas.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the combined feedback channel is used during soft handover.

24. The method of claim 14, wherein the sub-active set is interlaced.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the interlaced sub-active set is categorized into an odd interlace and an even interlace, and wherein the odd interlace provides information regarding channel quality, and the even interlace provides information on at least one antenna or a set of antennas selected by a receiving end.

26. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes an extended channel quality information (CQI) cover and wherein the extended portion of the CQI cover includes sector identification and information on at least one antenna or a set of antennas selected by a receiving end.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the extended CQI cover is a CQI cover with an extended number of bits.

28. The method of claim 26, wherein the CQI cover includes a channel quality information (CQI) value which is unchanged.

29. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes a channel quality information (CQI) value whose size is increased to include information on at least one antenna or a set of antennas selected by a receiving end.

30. The method of claim 29, the CQI value is represented in bits.

31. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes a differential value which is a difference in channel quality information (CQI) value relative to a previous CQI value.

32. The method of claim 31, wherein the previous CQI value is a full CQI value.

33. The method of claim 31, wherein the differential value is indicated by an up/down command.

34. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes multiple channel quality information (CQI).

35. The method of claim 14, wherein the feedback information includes multiple power control commands.

36. The method of claim 14, further comprising receiving a rank selection from a transmitting end.

37. The method of claim 36, wherein the rank selection relates to a number of carriers and antennas available for transmission.

38. The method of claim 36, wherein the rank selection provides information regarding a number of channels and sizes of each channel.
